Ivy House Country Hotel is close to the coastal town of Lowestoft, and sits on the banks of Oulton Broad. Its 21 acres of grounds include gardens, lawns, ponds, marshes and a thatched barn.

The hotel is in the Broads National Park, and you can stroll into the town of Oulton Broad directly from the hotel's gardens. The park is full of scenic waterways and wildlife, and has plenty of walking and cycling routes, or you can travel through it by boat and moor up to explore the nearby villages and waterside pubs.

The hotel is a 10-minute drive from Lowestoft's promenade, and beyond that the sandy beaches south of the town offer plenty of options for coastal walks. Local attractions Africa Alive!, Pleasurewood Hills and the seaside town of Southwold are within 25 minutes' drive. The coastal resort of Great Yarmouth and the Suffolk Coast National Nature Reserve are less than 30 minutes' drive away.

Eve's Bar & Lounge has panoramic views over the gardens, ponds and over to the Broads. It's a great spot for a cream tea, a pre-dinner drink or a bar snack. You can also order a hamper to enjoy at one of the many picnic tables within the grounds.

For fine dining, head to the Crooked Barn Restaurant, which holds two AA Rosettes. Head chef Keith Parton serves a menu of local and seasonal ingredients in the characterful 16th-century barn.

All guests get homemade biscuits on arrival.

The spacious relaxed atmosphere and very friendly staff. The spacious grounds (would be lovely in the summer).
Other Comments
We dined in the conservatory on the 2nd evening but was forgotten about because there was a large number of people in the restaurant. We booked our table for 7.45pm but did not get our starters until after 9pm when my husband chased it up, then another wait for our main course after that. The food was then not very good as seemed to have been keeping warm somewhere as dried up. We did complain and the manager, Keith, did speak to us next day with apologies and took the cost of the meals off the bills. We felt that there was insufficient number of staff on duty for the amount of diners. On the whole we did enjoy our stay (I had booked another room for friends also) we would give this a second visit possibly in the summer to give them a 2nd chance.

the rooms although large and clean could do with an update as decore looked old and tired. again staff were great and the room was spotless. I would be very disappointed to have to pay the full price for this stay. the travelzoo rate was great but shouldn't take away anything from a paying customer which it appeared to do.
Other Comments
the restaurant food although looked wonderful was not as good as it looked. on two occasions meals were sent back because they were cold the replacement was not to much better and spolit a what should have been a special occasion. the staff were lovely and tried to make up for the disappointment . cannot fault them for this.

Very Peaceful setting and the rooms being detached from the main hotel.
Other Comments
Hotel missing out on upselling when waiting staff not returning to guests to see if meal is ok etc and as service is slow between courses, we would have ordered desserts and coffee, but after the long wait we decided to give up. We also wanted to order wine with our bar meal but the waitress came when we had finished. There is a lot of opportunity for this hotel, staff obviously need more training and managing. But overall we had a relaxing couple of days.

The grounds looked lovely and the food was delicious.

We didn’t realise that the room was not actually in a hotel but was a chalet. The room was cold. There was a chip in the bath and I had to get receptionist to clean the bath so I could use it. The complementary water tasted fowl and the bar didn’t have any atmosphere and shut early.

The Travelzoo deal was a superb way to spend three days away in Winter at this excellent hotel, for a reasonable price. All the stated 'extras' were included with no quibble and the friendly staff went out of their way to ensure we had a lovely break. Overall an A+*
