Why We Love This Hotel

  • The hotel is across the road from The Stray, a 200-acre stretch of parkland
  • Harrogate town centre is 10 minutes' walk away
  • This Grade II-listed property sits on the site of Harrogate's first hotel

Overview

Cedar Court Hotel Harrogate is 10 minutes' walk from the centre of Harrogate -- the "quintessential Victorian spa town", according to Lonely Planet.

This Grade II-listed 19th-century building sits on the site of Harrogate's first hotel, the Queen's Head Inn, which was built in the 1680s. The Turkish Baths & Health Spa is 15 minutes' walk away, and the Royal Hall, which hosts antique fairs, classical concerts, live comedy events and more, is a little further. On the way, you'll pass the famous Bettys tea room.

Ripley and Knaresborough castles are just over 10 minutes away by car, and Harewood House takes around 15 minutes. Mother Shipton's Cave and the Petrifying Well -- one of England's oldest tourist attractions -- is 10 minutes' drive away. You can also trek with llamas at Nidderdale Llamas in the Yorkshire Dales, or visit Brimham Rocks, both about 30 minutes' drive away. Pateley Bridge, a small market town on banks of the River Nidd that's home to England's oldest sweet shop, is 30 minutes' drive.

The hotel brasserie serves British and international cuisine, and has a selection of Yorkshire cheeses. There is an on-site gym, and all guest rooms have free Wi-Fi.

I'm sorry to say the dining experience wasn't good. The dining room was quite cold, and the service very slow. However the food when it did arrive was excellent.

Rooms, food and staff all very good. Only gripe was bar does not do cocktails - bit strange for an events venue.

The food, is was really poor quality and poorly presented. They let themselves down with this . But the bedrooms and staff were really nice - such a pitty.

Travelzoo deal was really good value for money. Once you deduct the £50 meal allowance and the buffet breakfast, you get the night in the hotel for practically nothing.

Room was really nice. It looked newly decorated - all white and grey with orange accessories. After our evening meal, we sat and had a couple of drinks in the lounge bar which had a nice atmosphere. When booking the deal I asked for a double room instead of singles in the allocated box. When we got there, they said that they didn't get the message. If you want something, make sure you ring up and ask the hotel direct - they said they don't always get the messages.

Good location. Breakfast was good. The evening meal was overpriced and very poor. It was part of the deal, otherwise we would have sent the food back. I didn't eat any of my meal. I would return to the hotel, just wouldn't eat there.

Lovely big Executive room, nicely decorated, comfy bed and large old windows with a great view over the front gardens.
Other Comments
Food very good. Staff pleasant and helpful. Very good value for money. At £109 for B & B and an evening meal, the standard of everything actually surpassed my expectations. Had a lovely break.

It's location and the quality of food and service in the Queens restaurant.
Other Comments
The room was supposed to be an excecutive room but it was more like a standard room. There was no duvet cover on the duvet it was just sandwiched between two sheets, breakfast was poor. With the exception of the staff in the Queens restaurant we felt more like an 'inconvenience ' and this included our arrival in reception.
