Why We Love This Hotel

  • The hotel is across the road from The Stray, a 200-acre stretch of parkland
  • Harrogate town centre is 10 minutes' walk away
  • This Grade II-listed property sits on the site of Harrogate's first hotel

Overview

Cedar Court Hotel Harrogate is 10 minutes' walk from the centre of Harrogate -- the "quintessential Victorian spa town", according to Lonely Planet.

This Grade II-listed 19th-century building sits on the site of Harrogate's first hotel, the Queen's Head Inn, which was built in the 1680s. The Turkish Baths & Health Spa is 15 minutes' walk away, and the Royal Hall, which hosts antique fairs, classical concerts, live comedy events and more, is a little further. On the way, you'll pass the famous Bettys tea room.

Ripley and Knaresborough castles are just over 10 minutes away by car, and Harewood House takes around 15 minutes. Mother Shipton's Cave and the Petrifying Well -- one of England's oldest tourist attractions -- is 10 minutes' drive away. You can also trek with llamas at Nidderdale Llamas in the Yorkshire Dales, or visit Brimham Rocks, both about 30 minutes' drive away. Pateley Bridge, a small market town on banks of the River Nidd that's home to England's oldest sweet shop, is 30 minutes' drive.

The hotel brasserie serves British and international cuisine, and has a selection of Yorkshire cheeses. There is an on-site gym, and all guest rooms have free Wi-Fi.

Food very good. Issues dealt with but queried too many times.
Other Comments
The staff didn’t know what was included in our booking. There was supposed to be a bottle of house wine in your room but they didn’t provide one or seem aware we were due one. Then challenged on late checkout. Plus incorrect breakfast time quoted

The building is nice They looked after our bags after check out but then struggled to find them
Other Comments
Dinner reservation lost Food was average to poor The superior room was batters and marked with dirty and torn linens and a view of the air conditioning plants in the car park. The communal areas were tired and dated with torn carpets. Our breakfast order was lost The self check in is annoying as you still need someone to create your key In all this is a very poor example of a four star hotel.

Comfortable rooms and in easy walking distance of the town centre.
Other Comments
The hotel reception has been digitalised - ie self check in and not always manned by staff. We did not find this to be effective. We tried to contact reception from our room and no-one answered the phone. I have been in many hotels round the world and only experienced this at Cedar Court - in our opinion it is a bad idea !!!

We were disappointed that we were not allowed to have our wine (included in package) in the restaurant with our meal or in the lounge. Who sits in their room to drink a bottle of wine?

Spacious room. Hot buffet breakfast.
Other Comments
Food at dinner fairly bland but breakfast very good. Dining experience marred by mix up with inclusive bottle of wine ... not provided in room on arrival and, when requested at dinner, informed not permitted in dining room. Resolved by allowing it to accompany the meal (albeit half way through the main course).
