Why We Love This Hotel

  • Dating from 1632, Llangoed Hall was originally a Jacobean country house. It was later redesigned as an Edwardian manor by Clough Williams-Ellis, the celebrated architect of the village of Portmeirion.
  • The house was restored by the family of Welsh designer Laura Ashley. The interiors feature a collection of fine art, floral fabrics, antique chandeliers, and family heirlooms (including a framed apron, the first garment made by Ashley herself).
  • State Double rooms are uniquely furnished and come with a bathrobe, slippers, and luxury toiletries. Deluxe State rooms are larger and have seating areas. Luxurious Master Suites are also available.
  • The hotel's restaurant has two AA Rosettes. Except fish, all the produce and ingredients are sourced from within a 5-mile radius of the estate.
  • Fifteen minutes' drive from the hotel is the market town of Hay-on-Wye, well known for its antiquarian bookshops and annual literary festival. Tickets are on sale for this year's event, which will be held from 23 May-2 June.
  • Bannau Brycheiniog National Park—formerly known as the Brecon Beacons—has "some of the finest scenery in southern Wales" (Lonely Planet). It's less than 30 minutes' drive away.
