Socrates Hotel Malia Beach is located in a quieter part of Malia, a short walk from the beach. This is a good-value option for those who don't want to be based on Malia's busy downtown strip, but still want to be close to all the action. The Old Town and its traditional tavernas are a 15-minute stroll.
The apartments are a good size, the largest of which -- the Family Rooms -- have two bathrooms and three bedrooms (sleeping up to five). All rooms have a balcony (most with good views), air conditioning and a kitchenette with a microwave and fridge. Wi-Fi is complimentary, as is bottled water, which is replaced on a daily basis.
In the morning, there's a fresh buffet breakfast served in the terrace bordering the pool. Past guests comment that after a week the choice can feel a bit limited (particularly at dinner times), but there are a multitude of other options nearby. The pool itself is a good size and surrounded by comfortable sun beds, plus there's a separate small paddling pool for children. No loud music is played so this is the perfect place to relax in the sun. This vibe continues in the evening, when the bars are generally quiet -- this may not suit all guests but the bars of the strip are a short walk away.
