Overview

Mill End Hotel is a "secluded country house hideaway" (The AA Hotel Guide 2019) on the banks of the River Teign in rugged Dartmoor National Park.

The hotel is housed in a 15th-century former mill building that features a restored 18-foot waterwheel that's powered by an aqueduct.

The 2-AA-Rosette restaurant uses fish from the Cornish coast and locally reared Devon meat. All bottled water is produced in house, using a 7-stage filtration and purification system. Breakfast includes a continental buffet and hot dishes cooked to order.

The small bar is a nice spot for pre-dinner drinks, or you can sample a traditional Devonshire cream tea in the gardens or in one of the lounges.

Keen anglers can fish (supplements apply) the hotel's private stretch of the River Teign. Well-behaved dogs are allowed in some rooms for an extra £8 per dog, per night (check with the hotel in advance). Rooms are split between the main house and the annex.

Couldn't get a table until 8pm but were not able to eat until 9pm finishing at 10.30. We were too tired after travelling to really appreciate what was a lovely tasting menu. Ps whoever prepared the blackberry mousse, used a knife or chopping board that had been used for onions before they prepared the orange pieces.

In all the years I have never walked into a hotel before where I immediately knew that I would want to keep coming back, but Mill End was just that place! Every staff member was personable with a nice problem’ attitude, our room (Harbourne) was absolutely gorgeous, food was exceptional. We went to Gidleigh Park for afternoon tea and absolutely wished we had stayed at Mull End for it. I really can’t fault this hotel, it was absolutely the best place to celebrate our tenth wedding anniversary and I cannot wait to return.

Greeted very warmly, assistance offered for bags to room. Large room, was the occasional bark from the dog below us which I thought might irate but this did not continue. Bath, large enough to lie in - I am 5'9" - complete luxury and lovely bath smellies. Beautiful walks right on the doorstep. 5 course tasting menu, delightful as were the wines to accompany it. Dog friendly hotel, which we would not normally chose, but dogs were all kept on leads and very well behaved!(Not allowed in dining room and boot room to wash and dry dogs and owners!)) Great choice at breakfast. Fresh coffee and nice choice of drinks in room. All staff very pleasant and accommodating. Friendly pub 2 min walk down the road - what more could you want?
