Pentire Hotel in Newquay is set on a headland between Fistral Beach and the picturesque Gannel Estuary, a 10-minute stroll from one of the UK's most popular surfing spots and only five minutes' drive from the town centre.

With the South West Coast Path a 5-minute walk away, the hotel provides an ideal base from which to explore the local area on foot. The Blue Reef Aquarium and Newquay Zoo -- praised by The Daily Telegraph as "one of Britain's best zoos" -- are both within 10 minutes' drive of the hotel. Carnewas and Bedruthan Steps (for spectacular views of its giant sea stacks) and the picturesque fishing town of Padstow, made famous by Rick Stein's seafood empire, are both 35 minutes' drive away. Further afield, the Lost Gardens of Heligan and the Eden Project are around 40 minutes' drive.

The hotel has a heated indoor swimming pool, as well as a beauty treatment centre and a games room with pool and table tennis. The restaurant uses fresh local produce, and Dunes Bar serves local beers and ciders. The bar's outdoor terrace looks on to the garden, where there is a children's play area.

Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel. Standard Double rooms have countryside views. Dogs are welcome for a £10-per-night supplement.

Our room - 322 - very very tired. Needs new mattress and shower. The shower is not an isolated unit so if someone next door flushes the loo, up goes the hot water and we both had to leap out the way for fear of being scalded. I am surprised with EU and H&S issues, that such showers still exist. Very niggled that the picture of the Pentire is actually a picture of the Headland Hotel. This is so misleading and we were disappointed. The hotel is very dated and needs upgrading but for groups like Just Go! , Newmarket, etc, it would represent good value. It's certainly better than the Kensington Hotel in Llandudno which is dire (we were with Newmarket) and the food so cheap. I must stress how good the staff were (and they were understaffed) because you cannot check in until 1500 and out by 1030. Rooms still being serviced at teatime. Please change the photo. You could be "done" for misrepresentation.! Sally Brown

A pity our room with a view had blown double-glazing so we could have viewed it!

Nice hotel, restaurant and especially the bistro, staff very friendly and couldn’t do enough. Lovely food in bistro and really excellent waiter called James.

Sadly the rooms are very dated, we paid extra for a sea view room, which in fact overlooked a flat roof with seagulls nesting and sea in the distance. No hook in bathroom to hang a hand towel and wires down the wall from tv. Very poor quality room but as cheap deal didn’t complain, certainly wouldn’t go back.

The price was great and it was near the location we wanted. The hotel is in the quiet area of the town, but it is easy to walk there, so the best of both worlds for us. Lots of amenities - pool table, ping pong and swimming pool were an additional bonus.
Other Comments
The cooked breakfast portions ere a bit on the small side, shower in our room was boiling hot even when set to the coldest. This seemed to be mainly in the evenings though.
