Etrop Grange Hotel is an airport hotel with a difference -- a 4-star Grade II-listed mansion house with oodles of Georgian charm, an elegant front and nostalgic touches such as chandeliers, ornate drapes and marble fireplaces.
The hotel, built in 1780, is right next to Manchester Airport and less than 20-minutes’ drive from Old Trafford stadium and shopping at the Trafford Centre. Manchester city centre, with its shops, bars, restaurants, museums and galleries, is about 30 minutes away by train. Most guests stay because it’s close to the airport, but if you have time to spare, the Cheshire countryside is worth exploring. Dunham Massey (a Georgian house and gardens, and former military hospital) and Quarry Bank Mill (a working 18th-century cotton mill) are both within a 15-minute drive, and the Peak District National Park is around 30 minutes by car.
Not that you need to go out to eat. The hotel has two restaurants: the AA-Rosette-awarded Wine Glass restaurant for fine dining, and the Grange Bar & Grill, which overlooks the courtyard and offers light bites, afternoon tea and dinner. The more informal bar is the ideal spot for a quick bite to eat, a drink or a coffee break.
The 64 rooms -- some decorated in sleek modern style, others with four-poster beds and colourful furnishings -- come with air conditioning, plasma TVs, tea and coffee-making facilities and free WiFi. Upgrade to a Four Poster Room or Signature Suite for direct access to the manicured courtyard.
