The Richmond Gate Hotel & Leisure Club is set in an 18th-century country house at the top of Richmond Hill. The view from the hill, which includes St Paul's Cathedral, has inspired painters and poets for centuries and is the only view in the country that is protected by an Act of Parliament.
The 4-star hotel is opposite Richmond Park, the largest Royal Park in London and formerly one of Henry VIII's hunting grounds, now home to red and fallow deer. The local boutiques, antique shops and restaurants in Richmond are also a short walk away. Richmond Theatre, where productions are often road-tested before hitting the West End, is a 5-minute drive from the hotel. Hampton Court Palace, "England's largest and grandest Tudor structure" (Lonely Planet), is a 15-minute drive from the hotel. Explore the palace and its 24 hectares of riverside gardens, including a 300-year-old maze. Kew, a 10-minute drive from the hotel, is "a magnificent World Heritage Site covering 300 acres with over 30,000 species of plants", according to Time Out.
Breakfast is served daily in the Conservatory Restaurant, which overlooks the gardens. Dinner is served in the Gates Bar, and there are two lounges where you can take traditional afternoon tea in front of an open fire. The on-site Cedars Health and Leisure Club has facilities including a swimming pool, a large spa bath, a steam room, a sauna, a beauty treatment area and a gym.
Rooms are designed in neutral tones and have free Wi-Fi.
