Why We Love This Hotel

  • This 19th-century manor sits in 19 acres of grounds with a private lake
  • The property is on the edge of the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, close to Dumbleton and Winchcombe
  • Nearby towns include Stratford-upon-Avon, Tewkesbury and Evesham
  • We visited the hotel, and loved the peaceful atmosphere and the stunning views

Dumbleton Hall Hotel is a Grade II-listed manor house set in 19 acres of private grounds bordered by woodland. The present building sits on the site of the original 16th-century house, and once hosted the novelist Elizabeth Gaskell and the poet John Betjeman, who is reputed to have written three poems here. We visited the property and loved the stunning views of the Vale of Evesham and the surrounding Cotswold countryside.

The ancient market town of Winchcombe, which has quaint shops, pubs and tea rooms, and is on the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Steam Railway, is 10 minutes' drive away. The ruins of 13th-century Hailes Abbey, where you can follow an audio tour or visit the museum, are within a 15-minute drive. You can also visit Tewkesbury -- a 20-minute drive away -- to see the medieval buildings and narrow alleyways that surround the Benedictine abbey.

Cheltenham, Stratford-upon-Avon and Batsford Arboretum, a 56-acre botanical garden with one of the largest collections of trees and shrubs in England, are around 30 minutes' drive away. Gloucester, with its 11th-century cathedral, is 35 minutes' drive from the hotel.

Dinner and Sunday lunch are served in The Cedar Tree Restaurant, which has an extensive wine list. Afternoon tea, coffee and bar snacks are available in The Olive Lounge, and drinks are served in The Library Bar and Lounge.

Bedrooms vary in size and character, but all have views of the gardens or the Vale of Evesham. Dogs are welcome, but not in the public rooms (fees apply; see policies for details).

Having a notice on the bar letting customers know that to order coffees/teas during the day, that this needs to be through reception would help customers.

Beautiful traditional hotel, in lovely grounds and set in the gorgeous Cotswolds. We had an upgraded room which was large, comfortable, with a modern bathroom and shower, and very comfortable beds. Super breakfast. Couldn’t fault anything, and great value on a special deal.

The only fault was that the waiters seemed to rush you through your meal. As soon as your plates were taken away you got the next course. We asked in tgecend if we could have 1pmins space between our main course and dessert. Even at breakfast my cooked breakfast came before I'd finished eating my cereals. Otherwise very good.

Charlie was absolutely first class. A very helpful young lady, Dumbleton should be very proud of her on reception. Couldn't do enough for us.

Beautiful old country house hotel. Comfortable stay. Mainly pleasant & helpful staff. Food at times was absolutely delicious and at other times very disappointing. Asked for well done steak on both nights. First night beautiful and in second night a cremated bullet of beef was put in front of me with a sarcastic comment from the chef via the waiter, that it was like this because I’d asked for it well done! No steak knife on the second night either. Plus, a very busy night due to it being Valentines Day & was unable to get the attention of any waiting staff to deal with my unsatisfaction and to rectify the situation. I don’t like my meat pink but not cremated either, as this makes the meat carcinogenic. Also, breakfast on the first morning was disappointing. Croissants and orange juice ran out and weren’t replenished. Cooked breakfast soggy and overcooked. Didn’t have a cooked breakfast on the second morning after struggling to eat it on the first morning. Shame.
