"Located way off the beaten track amongst glorious Cotswold countryside, this stately hotel is in a truly idyllic setting not far from Evesham and Stratford-upon-Avon. We were fortunate to enjoy two very warm days in July, so a pot of afternoon tea whilst overlooking a private lake with black swans was very much a highlight of our visit. Wonderfully tranquil ! And the standard of cuisine was generally excellent (particularly the 'Trio of Chocolate' dessert.)"

Overview

Dumbleton Hall Hotel is a Grade II-listed manor house set in 19 acres of private grounds bordered by woodland. The present building sits on the site of the original 16th-century house, and once hosted the novelist Elizabeth Gaskell and the poet John Betjeman, who is reputed to have written three poems here. We visited the property and loved the stunning views of the Vale of Evesham and the surrounding Cotswold countryside.

The ancient market town of Winchcombe, which has quaint shops, pubs and tea rooms, and is on the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Steam Railway, is 10 minutes' drive away. The ruins of 13th-century Hailes Abbey, where you can follow an audio tour or visit the museum, are within a 15-minute drive. You can also visit Tewkesbury -- a 20-minute drive away -- to see the medieval buildings and narrow alleyways that surround the Benedictine abbey.

Cheltenham, Stratford-upon-Avon and Batsford Arboretum, a 56-acre botanical garden with one of the largest collections of trees and shrubs in England, are around 30 minutes' drive away. Gloucester, with its 11th-century cathedral, is 35 minutes' drive from the hotel.

Dinner and Sunday lunch are served in The Cedar Tree Restaurant, which has an extensive wine list. Afternoon tea, coffee and bar snacks are available in The Olive Lounge, and drinks are served in The Library Bar and Lounge.

Bedrooms vary in size and character, but all have views of the gardens or the Vale of Evesham. Dogs are welcome, but not in the public rooms (fees apply; see policies for details).

I have to say that my stay was almost spoilt by trying to sleep under an overly warm & heavy duvet - something lighter next time please !! A nod to the building's Post Office heritage would be a nice touch : an ornamental old letter box on the corner of the staircase perhaps ?

Beautiful and quiet location - an ideal retreat for some rest and rambling. Our room was clean and comfortable albeit a tad 'compact', but with lovely views of the extensive grounds. The meals were delightful and restaurant staff friendly and efficient. Our only regret was that we were only able to stay for one night as a second night was not available.

The room was small but adequate. Breakfast didn’t start until 8am. The sangria was not worth drinking so we left ours. I would have preferred a glass of wine with our meal.

The grounds are lovely and we took a stroll around before dinner. The evening meal was very good but breakfast was very slow.

The reception staff could be more welcoming on arrival, seemed more concerned with their computer screens than the guests

Very good hotel in lovely grounds. Good food but breakfast on second day was a bit chaotic - apparently some IT failure
