Overview

Woodlands Park Hotel is surrounded by well-groomed lawns and 10 acres of parkland in the Surrey countryside. The Victorian manor house was built by the Bryant family, who owned the matchmaking firm Bryant and May, and often hosted the then Prince of Wales (later Edward VII).

The hotel is a 10-minute drive from Cobham and Leatherhead. Nearby attractions include Denbies Wine Estate, Hampton Court Palace -- "England's largest and grandest Tudor structure" (Lonely Planet) -- and Painshill, where you'll find 158 acres of landscaped gardens scattered with 18th-century follies and a crystal grotto.

Chessington World of Adventures Resort and Box Hill, popular with cyclists and hikers, are 20 minutes' drive away.

The Oak Room restaurant (open for dinner Friday-Sunday and Sunday lunch) has traditional oak-panelled walls and holds two AA Rosettes -- please note this restaurant is sometimes closed for private dining. There's also a bistro-style restaurant (open daily).

Other facilities at the hotel include a gym. All guests get free Wi-Fi and bottled mineral water.

Our room was modern, bright and airy with good facilities. The staff were pleasant and helpful and the food was excellent including the breakfast which offered loads of choice.
Other Comments
The only downside about our room was that the exterior glass windows were dirty and the wooden frames behind the modern glazing were tatty and dirty. The bath was so deep, I struggled to step out of it (I'm 5'2inches) and there was only a heated towel rail to hold onto for support. A grab rail would be useful.

This could be really good hotel if it paid a little more attention to detail. Some of the staff (not all) need a little training regards customer interaction or customer service. At breakfast there was no direction by the staff like explaining where the continental breakfast items were as It was hidden behind a pillar! We were waited on by a young man but he didn't smile or look like he enjoyed being there. The evening food was good If a little expensive, waiters didn't seem to know what each other was doing and two of my courses were forgotten. The room was ok but lacked enough hanging space for two people and the bathroom was clean but looked a little dated. We enjoyed our visit but things could be improved.
