Who knows what you can accomplish after a night in a Holiday Inn Express? One popular choice is to spend the day on the sugar white sands of the Gulf Shores coast, taking in the emerald water views. The beach is only seven minute drive from the hotel.
While you’re there, take a long walk on a long pier. The Gulf State Park Pier juts a whopping 1,540 feet out into the ocean. Folks who like to fish flock here to cast a line into the clear waters below, hoping to snag any of the dozen or more types of fish commonly caught in the area.
If the only fishing you like to do is for a good deal, the 120 plus stores at the Tanger Outlets are a 12 minute drive north up the highway. If you have kids in tow, take a spin on the carousel to keep them entertained in between bouts of bargain hunting.
Haul your loot back to the hotel and unwind at the outdoor pool. When it’s time to refuel, the hotel doesn’t have an on-site restaurant but does have a free hot breakfast buffet. For other meals, head a few minutes south to popular Beach Boulevard, lined with seafood shacks and eateries serving up Southern fare and local specialties.
If family fun is on the agenda, the Waterville USA waterpark and the Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo are both a few minutes drive from the hotel.
The hotel itself is nothing remarkable, typical corporate décor in mostly neutrals. Although the large lobby is a great place to congregate and plan the day’s events. What it lacks in distinctive flair, it makes up for with location.
