The White Swan Hotel is in Halifax, a couple of minutes' walk from Halifax Borough Market, a Grade II-listed Victorian market serving deli sandwiches, old-fashioned confectionary and homemade fudge.
You can visit the newly opened Piece Hall, which is less than 10 minutes' walk away, or the Victoria Theatre, where you can watch ballet, comedy acts and pantomimes. Shibden Hall, a Grade II-listed timber-framed manor dating from the 1400s, is a 5-minute drive away. It's set in 90 acres within the Shibden Valley, and the park itself has a café, a miniature railway, a lake and a pitch-and-putt course. Sowerby Bridge -- a market town with picturesque waterways lined with trendy pubs and cafés -- is within 15 minutes' drive.
You will also have Brontë country on your doorstep. The village of Southowram is within 10 minutes' drive, and is said to have inspired Emily Brontë to write "Wuthering Heights". Haworth, the Brontë sisters' former hometown, is within 30 minutes' drive. Here you can visit the Brontë Parsonage Museum, which houses a collection of manuscripts, letters, poetry and early editions of novels written by the sisters.
The Peak District National Park is also 35 minutes' drive away, and the Yorkshire Dales National Park and Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty are both within an hour's drive.
The hotel's Italian restaurant, Julios, serves pizzas, pasta, meat dishes and risotto. Other facilities at the hotel include a workout room and a cosy bar and lounge. Wi-Fi is free.
