- Good budget pick
Set in central Montreal, the Embassy Suites Montreal is a great value option for families, budget travellers and those on business. The free breakfast from 6am is a plus and guests are also treated to free cocktails at the manager’s nightly reception (4-7pm), but it’s also in a great location right next to the Palais des Congrès de Montreal (the city’s convention centre).
Nearby are Notre Dame and the Montreal Museum of Archaeology and History, and it's less than 10 minutes' from Old Montreal’s cobbled streets and Chinatown. For journeys further afield, the Place d'Armes metro station is just across the road.
Unusually for a budget property, the majority of the accommodation here are suites, which have separate living rooms with a sofa bed and a bedroom or two, making them ideal for families. Each has its own kitchen facilities, including a full-size fridge with freezer, wet bar, microwave and coffee maker (Executive Rooms also have stoves), and the windows all open for fresh air. Take note: the kitchens don't come stocked with pots and pans, glasses or cutlery; these are available from reception on request. Pets are welcome (extra charges apply).
If you don't feel like cooking, the on-site restaurant is open until 11pm for casual dining, and there's a terrace for al fresco meals in good weather. If you have the chance, Toqué! Restaurant, "long touted as one of the city's best"(Fodor's) is only a block away. Back at the hotel, there's free Wi-Fi in the lobby (there's an extra charge to use it in-room), a small business centre and a small gym. Alternatively, take a run along the waterfront to the port or canal, four blocks away.
