About the Hotel
Why We Love This Hotel
- Hailed by Frommer’s as "spectacular" and "a real find"
- Only 90 minutes from New York City but surrounded by acres of peaceful countryside and vineyards
- Complimentary afternoon tea, with hot apple cider in the winter
- The eco-friendly spa is run via solar panels, and the restaurant serves produce from the on-site farm
The quaint columned inn dates back to 1890 and still has a historic décor today – think wood floors, antique furniture and a plethora of leather armchairs by roaring fires (weather permitting). There are 10 cozy rooms in the main house, with an additional eight guest cottages and guest houses a short walk away. Some of these are pet and children friendly, with full kitchens, separate living areas, outside space and multiple bedrooms – the Riverbirch House is particularly impressive. The standard rooms in the main house are a little small, but they come with wood-burning fireplaces, free Wi-Fi, and garden or river views.
Henry’s is the on-site farm-to-table restaurant serving lunch and dinner (Wednesday-Sunday), with lovely views of the surrounding gardens and ponds. Breakfast is a buffet spread of homemade baked goods, fresh eggs, local cheese and fair-trade coffee, and a complimentary afternoon tea is also served, with hot apple cider (in winter), and more. The on-site Millstone Farm provides produce such as fruit, vegetables, eggs, and herbs for the menu and cocktails in Henry's Bar. Rescued livestock such as alpacas, peacocks and chickens call the grounds home.
The eco-friendly spa uses solar panels to power the sauna and steam room and to heat the 40-foot indoor pool, and the spa only uses organic products in its treatments (try the Signature Millstone Farm Honey Facial). Floor-to-ceiling windows showcase stunning scenery of the river. There is also a small gym and a tennis court, and yoga classes are held on Saturday and Sunday mornings (extra charges apply).
