With its high-ceilinged atrium, contemporary design and marble pillars, the luxurious Crowne Plaza Beijing Sun Palace certainly makes an impression from the outset.
The hotel is located in Chaoyang District, within easy reach of the Wangjing business district, Sanlitun -- the famous "bar street" -- and the 798 Art Zone – a collection of modern installations within former industrial spaces. The beautiful Buddhist Yonghe Lama Temple is 4.4km away, while the Olympic Stadium, known as the Bird's Nest, is 8.2km. Taxis are good value in Beijing -- the fare from the hotel to the Bird's Nest will be around £3-£4, each way.
The hotel's fitness centre offers everything from volleyball, tennis and squash courts to yoga classes and personal trainers, and its 25-metre indoor pool has hot and cold whirlpools. The pool and fitness centre are both open from 6am-11pm. There's also a spa, which offers body-wrap and reflexology treatments. There are three restaurants and a number of bars, including an elegant piano lounge and sports bar.
Deluxe rooms are decked feature classic Oriental design touches and have marble en-suite bathrooms, some with their own private whirlpool tubs and saunas. All the mod cons -- huge flat-screen TV, cable channels, free WiFi, minibars -- are a given. Upgraded rooms offer access to the Club Lounge and all its benefits, which include free breakfast, afternoon tea and evening cocktails. For all-out luxury, there's the enormous Presidential Suite, complete with a crystal chandelier and two outdoor terraces.
