In the vibrant Little India district, PARKROYAL on Kitchener Road is surrounded by places to shop -- the 24-hour Mustafa shopping centre is right next door and the City Square Mall is opposite. The better known Orchard Road (lined with western stores such as Top Shop, Warehouse and Marks & Spencer) is a 10-miunte taxi ride, or 15 minutes on the MRT, from nearby Farrer Park station.
The MRT makes it easy to find your way around Singapore’s attractions. Universal Studios on Sentosa Island is a 40-minute train ride (the Tiger Sky Tower is also here for panoramic views), and five minutes to the National Museum of Singapore and Raffles Hotel (home of the Singapore Sling).
PARKROYAL has its own cocktail bar, Club 5, and specialities including the Liquid Toblerone. There are three restaurants on site. The all-day Spice Brasserie has a varied breakfast buffet, live cooking stations and a sushi bar. The more upmarket Si Chuan Dou Hua Restaurant serves Sichuan and Cantonese fare; dishes include braised pork belly served in a pumpkin, homemade dim sum and Peking duck. There is also the intimate Tian Fu Tea Room, with 30 varieties of fine tea and a daily imperial high tea.
After a full day exploring the city in tropical weather, cool off in the rooftop pool, which has a separate pool for children. There is also a gym and a spa with facials and massages.
The bedrooms feel spacious, with high ceilings, large windows and king-size beds. Wi-Fi is free and there are tea- and coffee-making facilities. Upgrade to an Executive King Suite or higher for access to the Orchid Club lounge, which serves complimentary breakfast, afternoon tea and evening cocktails.
