Overview
The Solana Hotel & Spa is a contemporary 4-star hotel in Mellieha, on the northern tip of Malta. This traditional village has plenty of historic charm, from cathedrals to WWII shelters.
The hotel is perched on a hill that overlooks the largest sandy beach on the island. There’s ample countryside and coast to explore, with plenty of local outdoor activities, including hiking, cycling, horse riding, jet-skiing, paragliding and windsurfing.
Valletta, Malta’s Baroque capital, is a 40-minute drive away. Popular with history buffs, the city was built in the 16th century and today forms Malta’s bustling commercial centre, with plenty of shops, cafés and restaurants.
The island of Gozo also makes for a great day trip, with the ferry departing from Cirkewwa (a 6-kilometre drive or bus ride from the hotel) every 45 minutes. Alternatively, the lively nightlife hotspot of Bugibba is less than a 15-minute drive away.
Hotel facilities include a rooftop pool, a panoramic sundeck, a gym, a spa with a Jacuzzi and a large indoor pool. There’s a cafe and two restaurants serving a mix of international favourites and local specialities, plus a bar on the rooftop deck. Summer barbeques are also regularly held between June and September.
The 100 ensuite rooms have free Wi-Fi, mini bars, and satellite TV, while most rooms have a balcony or terrace and sleep up to four people. Some also provide self-catering facilities.
