Set in 500 acres of “beautiful, unspoilt countryside, yet within easy reach of Exeter” (The AA Hotel Guide), the 4-star Woodbury Park Hotel and Golf Club is a go-to destination for family parties and, yes, golf weekends, but also offers opportunities to find space just for you.
Just over 10 miles from the centre of Exeter, the hotel is within easy reach of Crealy Great Adventure Parks and the National Trust site A La Ronde (both 10 minutes' drive away), Bicton Park Botanical Gardens (15 minutes) and Sidmouth Beach (20 minutes).
That's if you want to leave the hotel. As well as two golf courses, there is an indoor pool, a sauna, a Jacuzzi, a gym and the Bodyzone spa to explore, and two restaurants to choose from: The Atrium and the Terrace Bar and Grill. The Atrium's fine-dining menu changes seasonally. The Terrace Bar and Grill's menu is more casual. It also serves afternoon tea.
The 56 ensuite bedrooms are "smart, well-equipped and immaculately presented", according to The AA. Each room has satellite TV, tea- and coffee-making facilities and a hairdryer. Wi-Fi is free in the rooms, but there may be a surcharge for use in public areas. There are also five self-catering Swiss-style lodges, which sleep up to eight people. Each has a kitchen, a dining and lounge area, and a balcony overlooking the grounds.
