Small but perfectly formed, Rylstone Manor Hotel stands on a cliff above Sandown Bay on the Isle of Wight, so it’s really no surprise that two of its chief attractions are the sea views guests can enjoy from the landscaped gardens, and direct access to the beach below.
Assuming you’re not here for the sailing (Cowes Week in August, the Festival of the Sea in late June/early July), the music (the Isle of Wight Festival in early June, or a whole host of smaller events throughout the summer), or the beach, there’s still plenty to see and do on the island. Soak up miles of unspoilt countryside, by car or on foot, or visit Osborne House -- Queen Victoria’s holiday home -- half an hour’s drive from the hotel in East Cowes. The hotel is a few minutes’ drive from the popular seaside town of Shanklin and its shops, cafés, bars and restaurants.
Back at the hotel, you can relax in the snug lounge with a good book or an afternoon tea, or in summer months, enjoy the sea views from the Victorian covered patio. In the evening, guests who aren’t exploring their options in Shanklin can visit the ornate dining room, which offers a menu of modern European fine-dining dishes.
Rooms (there are nine) are decorated in country-house style and each is named after an English tree. Each varies in size and has antique furniture, cosy styling and free Wi-Fi.
