Overview

The 5-star Hotel Sofitel Brussels Le Louise is in the leafy Avenue Louise district -- "the byword for high-end shopping in Brussels", says The Daily Telegraph.

According to Condé Nast Traveler, "the Belgian capital is having a moment in the spotlight as a ville créative, from Stromae's catchy music to the fashionable concept stores and design ateliers that are popping up across town".

The city's historic Grand Place -- a UNESCO World Heritage Site and "one of Europe's most beautiful squares" (Rough Guides) -- is a 25-minute stroll from the hotel. The European Parliament, the Royal Palace, the Magritte Museum and the Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium are all less than 15 minutes' walk away.

The hotel interior has a "whimsical, theatrical touch" (The Daily Telegraph), with bold furniture, quirky wallpaper, surrealist sculptures and lace-patterned walls. The gourmet Crystal Lounge restaurant has a stylish terrace, with an adjoining bar that serves champagne cocktails and sometimes hosts live DJ sets.

Guestrooms feature a minimalist design with white leather and dark wood furnishings. Superior Rooms are more spacious than Classic Rooms and have garden views. Wi-Fi is free.

The quiet rooms and extremely comfortable bed.

My only criticism is that I left my phone charger and adapter in the room, however realized this a couple of hours after check-outs, so we went back and explained exactly where it had been left, but they were unable to find it and housekeeping didn't have it, so clearly it had been taken by the cleaning staff.

Very convenient location, close to subway and lots of shops (albeit mostly designer) and restaurants nearby. Within walking distance, about 20 minster, to main attractions.

We enjoyed our stay, our room was clean and very comfortable with all the extras, bathrobes and slippers, bathroom supplies and coffee making facility. We were also given two bottles of water each evening. However food and drinks are quite expensive, more so than other similar establishments in Brussels, the breakfast is certainly not worth the money, it was very disappointing. Service is also very slow but the staff are mostly quite friendly. We decided to eat in the restaurant on our last night because we'd spent the day in Ghent and didn’t get back to quite late. The main restaurant wasn't open but we could eat outside on the terrace which was fine because the weather was lovely, but unfortunately we were surrounded by smokers which we are not used to while eating. A separate non smoking area would have been preferable.

Clean well appointed rooms and a good breakfast buffet

I was disappointed with the service from the time I arrived to the time I left. I requested a dinner reservation and was instructed to walk down and ask the restaurant myself. The service for dinner and drinks was so appallingly slow and chaotic that after the first drink we left and found another place to eat. The car was left with concierge for the duration and on departure I requested it to be told yes it’s ready downstairs for you- I asked if that was accurate as they would know the time I intended to leave and was told there is someone waiting for you downstairs. There wasn’t and after standing outside with bags and looking I eventually went back to reception to find the person stood there. I also expect a valet to either bring the car to the front or escort me to the space and put my luggage in the car as a matter of courteous service.
