Hotel Indigo Newcastle is less than five minutes' walk from Newcastle railway station. Grainger Market, which houses local traders, small businesses, artisan bakeries, and more, is also nearby.

We recommend a trip to Jesmond Dene, a river valley in the north of the city. Follow the Ouseburn back to the city centre, stopping at its waterfall and ruined watermill. Stayed here before pre-Covid and it was nice to revisit for a short break , very easy to book and check in . Meal on the evening was good , opted for the steak and was a good choice . Breakfast was not as nice as past visits and was overcooked or had been standing too long under the lights .

Overhead shower was not working correctly. (Water merely trickling out!) I reported the issue to receptionist on the first morning but nothing was done about it. Had use the hand held shower which wasn’t really acceptable. Staff were good, maybe the receptionist who we reported the fault to, should have followed up to make sure the repair was done.

We always enjoy our stay at The Hotel Indigo. This stay offered great value. The food was a great standard and tasty. We stayed at The Devonshire Fell this year and was so disappointed with the quality of the food we would never return again. Thank you to the hotel Indigo for not dropping your standards. Service was fantastic and everyone made us feel valued and welcome. Our room had everything we needed for a omfortable stay. The prosecco each day was a much appreciated addition and was provided without reminder. Housekeeping failed to make up our room on our second day, however, which was a disappointment as we hadn't requested for the room to be left as is policy here.

Reception staff very friendly and efficient. We had the Travelzoo dinner bed and breakfast deal, which included a bottle of Prosecco in the room, and it duly arrived, which is not always the case with such deals ! We felt that we could ask any member of staff for anything and it would be sorted out quickly. The staff in the dining room were similarly friendly and efficient. There seemed to be good training and natural friendliness everywhere. The hotel is in a good position, near the railway station, for exploring Newcastle. Late checkout of 1pm on the deal was great !

Perhaps in the booking details the car park arrangements could be given more detail. The car parks (ground floor and underground - very tight spaces here) are immediately behind the hotel and very convenient, but are not managed by the hotel, and the hotel’s name is only mentioned in smallish print on the signage. I paid the 24hour rate of £17.50 at the car park, but if I’d waited until I booked in at reception, I would have paid only £14 to the hotel ! It didn’t spoil my stay, though, and the hotel’s system lets you stay in the car park until 5pm after checkout, even if that time exceeds your 24hour period.

All diners were transferred to the Crowne Plaza for their dinner, as the Hotel Indigo had a maintenance issue in the kitchen on the evening we were there. It was a celebration for our 50th wedding anniversary, so wanted it to be special. I e-mailed the hotel in plenty of time to ask about celebration packages (got no reply). I telephoned and asked the same question, the package included balloons, chocolates and flowers. As we were travelling by public transport I said we didn't want the balloons and was quoted a price of £10 for chocolates and flowers. Which I agreed to. However on telephoning the hotel that afternoon was told that that request hadn't been put on the system. This was a disappointment as I ordered it as a surprise for my husband. Room was quite small with a balcony, but that was not private at all , and the furniture was tatty. There was no view at all so the balcony was a waste. The food, however, was very good and so were the staff. We were given a free drink for having to wait a short time in the restaurant.

Rooms are lovely, modern and clean with a comfortable bed. Parking is available, a bonus in a city hotel. Hotel is perfectly positioned in the city centre, a short walk to the shops and sights and only ten minutes from the quays.

On the Sunday we were entitled to a 3 course meal each bottle of prosecco in the room etc. Should we have received the same on day 2 as we were originally told it was b and breakfast on day 2. But in effect we had to collect new room keys on the Monday and got another bottle of prosecco in the room but no dinner. If we had only booked the Monday we would have been entitled to dinner?

We were delighted by the location, style, ambiance, cleanliness and comfort of the hotel. We enjoyed a good nights sleep in our spacious room and comfortable bed. The food was plentiful and tasty. We couldn't have asked for more. Our experience fom arrival to leaving was perfect.
