The Chester Grosvenor is an institution in the historic city -- opened 150 years ago by Richard Grosvenor, second Marquess of Westminster, it soon played host to the rich and famous, including the future king Edward, Prince of Wales. Since its inauguration, it has retained its dominance as a haven of luxury. Today, it boasts five AA red stars, and includes a Michelin-starred restaurant and a luxury spa to boot.
The hotel is regally decorated in creams, gold and pale greens, and its stunning lobby features a large winding staircase wound around a huge drop chandelier. It's right in the heart of the city, with the Eastgate Clock just outside, and a 3-minute walk to the cathedral, and within 10 minutes to the city walls and Chester Racecourse.
The Michelin-starred Simon Radley at The Chester Grosvenor restaurant has a 1,000-bin wine list, and has won numerous accolades in the national press, including the Decanter/Laurent-Perrier Restaurant of the Year 2014. The Arkle Bar and Lounge is available for relaxed dining, afternoon tea and cocktails, and the Parisian-style La Brasserie is the hotel’s main venue for all-day dining, including the breakfast (complimentary continental; full English breakfasts for a surcharge). As a recent addition to the La Brasserie ambience, a live singer will perform Swing-era classics every Friday from 7pm. The hotel's facilities also include a small gym and a luxurious spa offering a range of treatments (for an additional fee).
All rooms are individually styled, featuring "timeless and opulent décor" (Simon Seeks). The luxurious feel is carried through to the marble bathrooms, which each have heated mirrors, Molton Brown amenities, and bathrobes and slippers. Some rooms have views over Chester, but most Classic Rooms look out onto the courtyard. All rooms have free Wi-Fi.
