Overview

The Bridge Hotel & Spa is in the hamlet of Walshford in North Yorkshire. The hotel is said to stand exactly halfway between London and Edinburgh, so it's not surprising that there is a 17th-century coaching inn at the core of the hotel building. Today, the property is five minutes' drive from the A1(M) and is "well-connected" (The AA) for day trips.

The hotel is less than 10 minutes' drive from the market town of Wetherby, home to Wetherby Racecourse, which hosts racedays from October to July. Bramham Park -- a sprawling wooded estate with an 18th-century manor -- is a 15-minute drive away.

You can also drive 15 minutes to Knaresborough and see Mother Shipton's Cave or the ruined 14th-century castle, or venture 30 minutes by car to spend the day at Newby Hall, Fountains Abbey or Lightwater Valley theme park. The nightlife of Leeds, the spa town of Harrogate and historic York -- "the North's most compelling city", according to Rough Guides -- are also around 30 minutes' drive from the hotel. The North York Moors and Yorkshire Dales national parks are 40 minutes' drive away.

The hotel boasts a spa with an outdoor hot tub, two saunas, an ice fountain and a steam room (spa access is £15 per person for three hours and must be pre-booked). The cosy bar is adorned with oak panelling dating back 250 years, and the restaurant serves classic British dishes. Wi-Fi is free.

We had a lovely 3 day / 2 night break, visiting National Trust properties in Yorkshire. We chose a Club room for extra space - and I think without it, it would have felt cramped. Room was spotless and everything was good quality. Comfy bed - pillows could have been a bit less bouncy.
Other Comments
The staff are an exceptionally friendly bunch. the hotel has a great bar with good bar food, and we enjoyed the carvery on the first night. Spa was worth a visit although 2 hours was enough. Breakfast was very good although we were always the last in so sometimes choice was more limited,

room was near an entrance way and thus a little noisy - breakfast was adequate but certainly wouldn't suit many people with food issues

The inclusive 5 course dinner was good and nicely served. The breakfast was well cooked but let down by the use of cheap jams and sauces.
Other Comments
There was an attempt in the restaurant and bar to make the place look smart, but this was let down by the grubby doors to the main rooms and corridors. The Reception area looked stark and hence not very welcoming. Not the fault of the hotel but an overpowering smell of pig manure coming from outside did not help

We had 5 item dinner option but unfortunately the Carvery was really poor& sent it back !!! We spoke to the lady on reception on leaving & she was going to address it. Other people said the same !!!! If they listen to the reviews I'm sure this could be sorted & at some stage to return in the future .
