Why We Love This Hotel

  • Polurrian on the Lizard was originally built in 1890 as a railway hotel. Past guests include Winston Churchill, and Hollywood stars Clark Gable and Gene Tierney.
  • The hotel boasts an exceptional clifftop location with uninterrupted coastal views over Mount's Bay. The hotel's Vista Lounge has floor-to-ceiling windows. It's the perfect spot for admiring the rugged scenery.
  • The Daily Telegraph calls it the "best hotel in the area" with a 10/10 location.
  • The South West Coast Path is at the bottom of the hotel's manicured gardens. Strike out along this trail and explore the rugged coastline. The Lizard Peninsula served as a filming location for "Poldark". It's a must for keen hikers, with lots of pretty coves to discover.
  • The Marconi Station World Heritage Site is 20 minutes' walk from the hotel. Along this route sits Polurrian Beach, a 5-minute walk from the hotel.
  • Stuck for Christmas gift ideas? Give a dining, spa, activity, theatre, or hotel experience, and create a memory.

The location is amazing. We had a sea view room and woke up to the best view every morning. The room was quite spacious but a little dated. Good supply of refreshments. Comfortable bed. Request for extra pillows came very quickly from Joshua?? Ample free parking. Great coastal footpaths directly from hotel. We stayed out of season so little atmosphere. Food very good, drinks a little expensive.

We enjoyed our stay here but unfortunately the hotel is so short of staff. The staff, especially girls in the restaurant and lads in the bar are completely over stretched. We sat in the lounge one day and a crowd of ladies came in and waited for ages at the bar without any acknowledgement, they almost left. I went to reception to let them know. Finally someone came to serve them. We would return but please hire more staff. We were celebrating a birthday, the hotel were informed twice, they even asked what day it was and said they would make a note on the booking. Sadly, this was missed and not even acknowledged.

A 10% service charge is added to your bill for food and drinks which we weren’t expecting. I would like to have been informed of this additional charge before visiting or at least before ordering.

Inland facing room was very small and cramped, shower was substandard at best. N.B. e booked an inward facing room (which was cheaper than a see view) because in November there is far less daylight hours in which to admire the sea view. By booking the cheaper room, we could stay for four nights, instead of three. Restaurant was cold at breakfast.
Other Comments
Prices for alcoholic drinks, tea and coffee, were extortionate.
