Owned and run by the Argentina family since the 1980s, Hotel Manfredi Suite is a charming historic property draped in ivy on a quiet cobblestone street, surrounded by art galleries and artisan shops. The terracotta property is incredibly central -- in only five minutes you’ll find yourself at the Spanish Steps (don't miss the Keats-Shelley House), and the designer shops on the Via Condotti.
The Trevi Fountain is a 10-minute walk south, and it's just five minutes farther to the enormous Jesuit church of Sant' Ignazio. The Borghese Gardens -- "Rome's most celebrated park" (Lonely Planet) -- is a block away and is popular with joggers. For city-wide sightseeing, you'll find the Spagna metro station five minutes' walk around the corner.
The hotel has 24-hour room service, free Wi-Fi and English-language movies (the movie menu displays prices, but you won't be billed). An excellent buffet breakfast is provided, including homemade pastries and cakes, fresh fruit, cold cuts and homemade yoghurt, and guests can request eggs and unlimited coffee to order. In the evenings, the breakfast room becomes a lounge with a small bar, where you can sample Italian wines, order a cocktail or sip a post-dinner coffee.
Rooms are quiet and romantic, done up in opulent Italian-style. Wallpaper, gilt-framed pictures and a baroque colour scheme turn these cosy spaces into mini palaces. All have air conditioning, in-room safes and high-tech showers, with multiple shower heads. Though well-equipped, basic rooms are on the small side, so upgrade if you require more space. Executive rooms and higher also have Jacuzzi baths.
