Admittedly, when most people visit Costa Rica, it's for lush tropical escapes, not the bustling urban streets of San Jose. However, for the adventurous traveler, Hotel Presidente places you in a pleasant pedestrian area with lots of local color.
The hotel décor is modern and simple with few frills. Rooms look recently updated and well-maintained. The hotel provides many free services: Wi-Fi, a fitness facility, and a daily hot breakfast buffet.
It is easy to explore San Jose from this hotel because almost every attraction is less than a mile away. Hotel Presidente sits on the corner of Avenida Central in the center of San Jose next to a pedestrian mall that is lined with restaurants, shops and fast food. This area is where tourists can buy traditional Costa Rican bric-a-brac to bring home as gifts. Local cuisine is found just outside the door within the pedestrian mall and surrounding areas.
A four-minute walk will take you to Casino Club Colonial, a full casino that also houses a 24-hour restaurant and bar, great for a night out. Other attractions such as the Jade Museum, Gold Museum and Chinatown are a one- to five-minute walk from the hotel.
