The Phoenix Park Hotel is a historic hotel with an exceptional location by Union Station and a cozy, innlike atmosphere. From its Waterford crystal chandeliers to the popular pub, it’s unequivocally Irish.

Rooms "have the feel of a Trinity College reading chamber that Joyce could have penned a novel in," says Lonely Planet. This is an older building, so the rooms and elevators are on the small side, but the lobby, public spaces and guest rooms were refreshed in Spring 2016. The best rooms are on the top floor and have views over the National Postal Museum. Wi-Fi is free throughout.

Set in the Capitol Hill district, the hotel is neighbors with many of the city’s most famous sights. The Library of Congress, the largest library in the world, and the Supreme Court are an easy stroll, Don’t miss the U.S. Capitol Visitor Center next door -- it’s free and packed with information. The location makes it popular with visiting politicians and diplomats; President Clinton is a past guest.

The Dubliner pub doubles as the hotel’s restaurant, with meals such as fish and chips and Dingle Bay salmon accompanied by pints of Guinness and live music every night. Few Irish pubs can boast such famous clientele -- President Obama stopped in for a pint on St. Patrick’s Day in 2012. There is also a small gym (open 24 hours), and the Upper Senate and Lower Senate parks are just next door.

Explore all of what the Capital City has to offer with top attractions like award-winning wineries and historic Potomac river cruises to fine-dining experiences just steps from The White House.

From the press:
  • "This spot has been home away from home for visiting Irish politicians … so when they lay on the Emerald Isle kitsch, it’s genuine" -- Lonely Planet
  • "The Phoenix Park's location, across from Union Station and 2 blocks from the Capitol, makes it a favorite of business folks in town to meet with government officials" -- Frommer's

They have modernized their hotel. Quite frankly I liked the old look of Irish linens. It was more quaint. Also our room was very small. I forgot to ask for the upgrade when checking in but it wasn't offered to us either.
