A converted stately home that overlooks Dorset's Chesil Beach and the Fleet Lagoon, Moonfleet Manor is surrounded by rural scenery and coastal walks. The hotel is on the Jurassic Coast, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with cliffs and coves that are known for their fossils. The Dorset Coast Path and Chesil Beach -- which, at 18 miles, is said to be the longest shingle beach in the world -- are also on the hotel's doorstep.

Abbotsbury, a picture-postcard village of honey-coloured buildings that's home to Abbotsbury Swannery, as well as popular beach fishing spots, is a 15-minute drive away. From the hotel, you can walk the South West Coast Path along the West Dorset Heritage Coast, or drive 20 minutes to Weymouth SEA LIFE Adventure Park and Tower and feed penguins and green sea turtles. The Isle of Portland, with its famous red-and-white Portland Bill Lighthouse and abundance of fish-and-chip shops, takes 30 minutes to reach by car.

According to The Daily Telegraph, "you will be well looked after" at this hotel. Its facilities include a cinema, three heated indoor swimming pools, a sauna and beauty treatment rooms (charges apply). The Mediterranean-style restaurant uses local suppliers for everything from seafood to ale.

With two cosy lounges and a garden terrace, there's plenty of space in which to unwind. Children are well catered for, too -- there is an indoor football pitch, a skittle alley, an Ofsted-registered crèche and baby-listening services (extra charges apply). Dogs can stay for £15 per dog, per night (payable to the hotel).

Breakfasts were very good but the table d'hote was boring and seemed to be designed to make you use the a la carte which was not much better. One a la carte main course was inedible.

Lovely hotel with great staff.

There was confusion about payment. I had an email from you saying I had paid and the hotel told me I hadn't. It would be useful to clarify this!

Clean air, lovely ambience by sea and nice hotel facilities helping to forget London hustle and bustle

Manor needs updating (triple glazing, power shower etc) unfortunately was very windy and our room was by sea. The 1st night we didn’t even get 5 minutes sleep. Staff was friendly and accommodating the next day and placed us in another room.

The staff were excellent and the food was sometimes very good sometimes poor.

Our rooms in the main house were tired and needed refurnishing - we were cramped. Having said that the staff were excellent and very helpful. We didn't appreciate having to go outside to the annexe to find a table suitable for bridge.
