Why We Love This Hotel

  • It's a short walk from Shakespeare's birthplace & the Royal Shakespeare Company
  • Hidcote Manor in the northern Cotswolds is a 20-minute drive from the hotel
  • Stratford-upon-Avon's main shopping streets are round the corner
  • There's a terrace open in the summer

"We were in a very noisy room the first night - it turned out to be air conditioning units located close to the room - sleepless first night! Moved to an upgraded move the second night. This was a good room and we slept well. We had one meal in the restaurant and that was excellent. Breakfast was more mediocre."

The BEST WESTERN Grosvenor Hotel is a Georgian building on a residential road, a short walk from Stratford-upon-Avon's main shopping streets, including Henley Street (Shakespeare's birthplace), Bridge Street and High Street, which is lined with black-and-white-timbered Tudor buildings and high-street shops.

Food is served in the Garden Room Restaurant, and drinks and afternoon tea are available in the Lounge Bar. During the summer, guests can sit outside on the terrace. Every Sunday there's a carvery from 12-3pm.

Bedrooms range from standard single, double or twin to family and executive rooms. Wi-Fi is free in all areas of the hotel.

The Avon Ring -- a 4-minute walk away -- is a canal ring that connects Stratford-upon-Avon with Evesham, Tewkesbury and Worcester, where you can walk by the canal through the park down to the Royal Shakespeare Company.

Follow Shakespeare's life stages, starting at his birthplace and childhood home on Henley Street. Discover Tudor courtship at Anne Hathaway's Cottage & Gardens, which is a 30-minute walk from the hotel, and is where Shakespeare courted his future wife. Explore the hay bale maze, see a falconry display or watch the farmer's wife prepare the home-grown food in the farmhouse kitchen at Mary Arden's Farm. It's a short drive outside of Stratford-upon-Avon, and was where Shakespeare's grandparents lived. Finish at Holy Trinity Church, where the Bard was baptised and burried.

Other attractions include Stratford Butterfly Farm, which has the UK's largest collection of tropical butterflies, and Stratford Town Walk, winner of the Tourism Initiative of the Year at the Pride of Stratford Awards 2015.

Warwick, Kenilworth Castle and the Northern Cotswolds are within a 25-minute drive of the hotel.

The hotel room was overlooking the laundry staff coming and going early morning. The room was shabby and the buffet breakfast was very poor resulting in us not having breakfast.
