Inland from the picturesque rocky coast of Maine, the Port Inn -- a boutique hotel built in 2013 -- is surrounded by white picket fences and sprawling gardens. Century-old cottages, Victorian homes and historic churches line the streets in the classic New England town of Kennebunk, an area known for it's "grand and gentle beaches" (Fodor's).
Guests at the Port Inn can find that dreamy white sand 20 minutes away at Goose Rocks Beach and Kennebunk Beach. There is a trolly stop out front of the hotel that runs seasonally to the beaches and to sister town Kennebunkport along the water, where the main downtown area -- Dock Square -- is filled to the brim with East Coast charm, quaint shops and lobster-themed-everything.
Guest rooms are spacious and feel fresh and new, with a relaxing neutral color scheme and picturesque scenes of crashing waves adorning the walls. Dining on site is limited to a daily complimentary breakfast, but some of the rooms come with kitchens or kitchenettes with modern appliances and sleek dark wood cabinets.
There's an outdoor pool (open seasonally) and terrace, and Wi-Fi is free. Explore Maine's natural beauty at the Rachel Carson Wildlife Refuge, just five minutes away. If the kids are in tow, the Funtown Splashtown USA amusement park is a 20-minute drive.
