Overview

Situated in the heart of downtown New Orleans' Warehouse District, known for its vibrant art scene, this fun, youthful hotel still retains lots of rustic touches from the building's long history, which was originally built in the 1800s. Named the No. 2 best hotel in New Orleans by Conde Nast Traveler readers in 2018, the Old No. 77 is a "daring, independent boutique" that sits in "a plum location on the edge of the CBD." (i.e. Central Business District)

Brick walls, high ceilings and exposed pipes give much of the hotel a loft-like aesthetic; the "contemporary and fresh" guest rooms are "quite spacious" (Oyster.com) and feature free Wi-Fi, USB outlets, flat-panel TVs, pillowtop mattresses and pillow menus, Bluetooth-enabled clock radios and honor bars stocked with local products. Amenities for four-legged family members include pet room service and even pet psychics (it is New Orleans, after all).

"Top Chef" fan favorite Nina Compton's first restaurant, Compère Lapin, is located on site and has already been named one of the "40 Most Important Restaurants of the Past 40 Years" by Food & Wine Magazine. The menu features cuisine that combines Compton’s Caribbean roots with French and Italian elements.

Outside the hotel, you're close to pretty much everything -- guests can stroll through dozens of art galleries and museums on nearby Julia Street, including the Ogden Museum of Southern Art. Lafayette Square and the city's conference center are a couple blocks away from the hotel, the Garden District is a short streetcar ride west and guests can join the revelry on Bourbon Street, less than a 15-minute walk away.

Staff was nice and the bed was comfortable.

The hallway was very dark and hard to see. I only received $21.75 credit and not the full $30 that was part of the booking at the coffee shop. Shower had mold and didn’t seem very clean.

We really enjoyed this hotel! Great atmosphere. Nice to come back after a day in the French Quarter (A/C and the lobby smells amazing). Our room was dark and quiet, very cozy. We loved the art. Wondering if it’s haunted though - we both woke to the light turning on by itself and it sounded like someone was in our bathroom. Also, on our last night someone checked in next to us and we could hear all their conversations. Otherwise it was a really great stay.

Good experience, wood floors in rooms make it noisy when someone is upstairs. Deluxe room is nice.

Very nice ambience, loved the artistic spin of the hotel. Old historic feel with mixed with contemporary pieces. Did not get a chance to eat at the restaurant but it and its chef has received multiple awards from what I understood. The location is great, close enough to everything but far enough from the craziness that the NOLA nights will bring you. Rooms are upgraded but still a bit worn which is understood with the age of the building. All in all, great staff, great location, BEAUTIFUL hotel.
