Tre-Ysgawen Hall Country House Hotel & Spa has won praise for its 11 acres of landscaped gardens and "breathtaking" (The Daily Telegraph) setting on the Welsh island of Anglesey. The hotel is less than 30 minutes' drive from the "handsome" (The AA) Georgian town of Beaumaris -- which has an impressive 13th-century castle and many elegant Georgian houses -- and is also ideally located for exploring the coast, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and other "hidden gems" (Lonely Planet).

The hotel has held a VisitWales Gold Award since 2011, and its famous former guests include Demi Moore, Richard Attenborough -- Sir David Attenborough's brother -- and Alicia Keys.

The Gothic-style building features traditional country-house decor, with high ceilings and chandeliers. Some of the bedrooms overlook the grounds; others have views of the mountains and the courtyard.

The real showstoppers here are the spa, which is in the hotel's converted stables and won North Wales Spa of the Year at the 2018 Welsh Hair & Beauty Awards, and the choice of dining venues. Noëlle's Restaurant serves a 5-course set-menu dinner, or more informal fare, The Grill and Il Giardino (which serves Italian dishes) are both open from 6-9:30pm. The Clock Tower has a café-style menu and is open during the day.

Guests get full access to the spa facilities, which include an indoor pool, a gym and a thermal suite with an experience shower, an ice fountain and a salt-inhalation therapy room. Advance booking is advised for treatments.

The swimming pool although could do with a repaint. Over charge for food noticed by staff day before still on the bill at checkout.

General refit and decoration needed. Basic overpriced menu and drinks. Lack of replenishing the breakfast buffet.

Bed was a bit small in standard room and menu in grill was a bit limited. Breakfast on first day was lacking a few of the things mentioned on menu ( Danish pastries, warm bread rolls, fresh fruit salad) but pastries and fruit salad there on second day.

Would have been lovely for more ice for our unfinished prosecco in our room. Otherwise fantastic

Hotel and grounds - very impressive
Other Comments
The lack of a walk-in shower is regretted. Climbing over the side of the bath without a grab-rail is potentially very dangerous. Neither I nor any of my friends take baths, and have only showered for many years.Baths are redundant these days, and do not exist in my house.
