The Montague on the Gardens is a stone's throw from the best London has to offer -- next door to the British Museum, with Oxford Street and the West End within walking distance -- but far enough away from the hordes of tourists found in central London.

Set in pretty Bloomsbury, the property is family friendly with well thought-out, quiet rooms. Some are quite small, which is typical for such a historical building, but many have lovely garden views. Complimentary bottled mineral water, Internet TVs, free Wi-Fi, DVD and CD players are standard, with a library of films and music to choose from.

Suites offer more space, evening canapés and king-size beds. Children are well catered for, with loaner board games, toys and game consoles and kids’ slippers and bathrobes in the bathroom.

The AA-Rosette Blue Door Bistro restaurant serves upscale classics, such as seared sea trout with crushed new potatoes, prawn stroganoff, and a Wagyu beef burger with truffle and Parmesan chips. After dinner, retire to the Cigar Terrace overlooking the gardens, which is reserved for cigar smokers from 5pm onwards in the winter (10pm during the summer).

The real showstopper, however, is the Garden Grill, serving grilled meat, barbecue dishes and Pimm’s cocktails on the secluded terrace in the summer. In the winter, the space is transformed into a themed ski lodge, serving cheese and chocolate fondue, mulled wine and mugs of hot chocolate.

The service was outstanding in every regard. Every staff member was friendly and eager to help in a pleasant, yet not obsequious way.

Beautiful hotel with tremendous attention to detail. The guest rooms were beautifully appointed, with every desired amenity. Complimentary water and cookies were there on arrival, towels were plush, bathrooms beautiful with lovely toiletries. Rooms were equipped with irons , hair dryers and safes large enough to hold laptops and other valuables. There were even office supplies in the desks and sufficient outlets to charge all our devices. The public spaces of the hotel were beautiful and there were many places to relax and refresh. The buffet breakfast was outstanding accompanied by excellent service. There was a nice selection of hot items and eggs and omelettes to order were offered and perfectly prepared. There was a cold buffet as well with fresh fruit, yogurt, cereals, cheese, fresh juices and anything else one may want for breakfast. Our only complaint was that our rooms was a little small. Other than that, a perfect stay in a perfect location. The hotel is a short walk to several tube stations and we took the tube from Heathrow to Russel Street station without a transfer and walked less than five minutes to the hotel. Could not be more convenient.
