Club Quarters Hotel, Gracechurch is a good-value hotel in the heart of The City, just across the road from Leadenhall Market -- "a place to wander at leisure and discover hidden shops, boutiques and delightful eateries" (Frommer's) and the filming location for Harry Potter's Diagon Alley.
The hotel is popular with business guests, but it is also a good base for sightseeing. The hotel is a 5-minute stroll from sights like The Bank of England Museum, The Monument to the Great Fire of London, and Billingsgate Roman House and Baths (Saturday-Sunday tours available from The Museum of London). Guildhall Art Gallery, where you can visit a Roman amphitheatre, Pre-Raphaelite art and a medieval great hall for free, is 10 minutes away on foot. St Paul's Cathedral, the Tower of London, The Museum of London, and the shops at One New Change are all within a 15-minute walk. It is a 5-minute walk to Bank and Monument Tube stations, which provide access to five Tube lines.
The hotel doesn't offer breakfast, but the on-site Gaucho Argentinean steakhouse, housed in the Bank of England's former gold vaults, is a good spot for lunch or dinner. The property also has a cosy residents' lounge, where free espresso, coffee and tea, and wireless printing are available. Other facilities include iPads to borrow, water stations on every floor and a fitness centre.
Bedrooms are compact, but smartly designed. Wi-Fi is free throughout, and yoga mats can be delivered to your room (on request).
