Why We Love It

  • Set on the pier, it’s the "only true waterfront hotel" in Seattle (Frommer's)
  • Favoured by rock stars in the 1960s and 70s, including Kiss, The Beatles & Led Zeppelin
  • Nab a table on the terrace at the hotel's seafood restaurant -- the views of Puget Sound & the Olympic Mountains are unbeatable
  • Pike Place Market & the Space Needle are both within 30 minutes' walk, or take the free hourly shuttle bus

Overview

"Seattle's only true waterfront hotel", The Edgewater "manages to capture the feel of a classic Northwest wilderness retreat", raves Frommer's. The hotel is set directly on Seattle's Elliott Bay, hovering over the water at the end of Pier 67 and offering some of the best views of Puget Sound and the Olympic Mountains.

The hotel is 10 minutes on foot from the aquarium and the Olympic Sculpture Park and a 15-minute walk along the waterfront from Pike Place Market. The famous Space Needle is a 20 minutes away down Broad Street and guests can borrow a bike for free in the summer months.

The hotel also offers a complimentary shuttle service to top destinations and attractions within a mile radius. It runs on the hour, every hour, and guests can call for pick-ups.

The hotel's restaurant Six Seven more than holds its own among Seattle's seafood dining scene with outstanding harbour views, a regularly changing menu and live music on the weekends. Try butter-poached shrimp, Alaskan King crab legs or pan-roasted halibut, or drop by for happy hour drink specials (Sunday-Thursday, 3-6pm). Make sure you get a table outside -- it’s "the best waterfront deck in Seattle" ( Frommer’s).

It's been a while since the rock stars of the 1960s and 70s stayed, but Lonely Planet says "rooms are still deluxe with a capital 'D'". Standard rooms are small, but rustic furnishings and gas fireplaces in every room make them feel cosy. It's worth upgrading to a room overlooking the water (some even have balconies). Pets with a travel kennel or hutch are welcome, with no extra charge applied.

From the press:
  • "The views out the windows are among the best in Seattle, and sunsets can be mesmerizing" -- Frommer's
  • "Perched over the water on a pier, it was once the hotel of choice for every rock band that mattered" -- Lonely Planet

Service can be improved. Besides the lady helping us at check out, the other staff whom we encountered are all very polite and professional, but lacks personal touch.

We enjoyed the restaurant. The food was good, and the waitstaff, bus staff, and hostess were friendly and warm.
Other Comments
The hotel had a smell that was damp and musty. The price for size of room and amenities was overpriced compared to other Seattle hotels we stayed in. The staff at the front end we're not gracious, they answered our questions but they didn't seem engaged. We didn't feel like a guest. They would only upgrade our room if we paid an extra fee, even though our reservation said to upgrade if available. Our clerk said they're were rooms available but only with extra fee.
