Tregenna Castle Hotel was built in 1774, and is set in over 70 acres of gardens that overlook St Ives and the Atlantic. It's a destination in its own right, with an 18-hole par-3 golf course; tennis, squash and badminton courts; beauty treatment rooms; swimming pools; a brasserie restaurant and more.

The hotel is a 20-minute walk from the white-sand Porthminster Beach, as well as the seaside town of St Ives, which is described by Lonely Planet as a "pretty jumble of slate roofs, church towers and turquoise bays". In the 1920s, St Ives was the epicentre of Cornwall's art scene, and today it is home to Tate St Ives, the Leach Pottery, and the Barbara Hepworth Museum and Sculpture Garden.

The South West Coast Path -- which leads to the Hayle Estuary or the picturesque Zennor village -- can be joined within 15 minutes' walk of the hotel. St Michael's Mount is a 20-minute drive away, and Land's End is 40 minutes away by car.

Castle Double Rooms at Tregenna Castle Hotel don't face the sea. Castle Sea View Double Rooms have views across the bay, and some have a sofa bed. You can also enjoy sea views from the Brasserie restaurant, which serves locally sourced seafood, as well as stone-baked pizzas and juicy British steaks.

I would happily recommend it for any one wanting a nice break in the St. Ives area. The breakfasts were not fancy, but they were 1st Class, I certainly felt "set up" for the day when I'd finished it. Highly recommmended. I am not a golfer, but ideal for any one that is; with its own course in the grounds.

The staff were very helpful and pleasant. Because we booked dinner on the first evening (not part of the original deal) and because we were with Travelzoo we were given a free bottle of wine with a two course dinner.

Beautiful setting above st Ives. Staff were lovely. Great facilities.

Only downside was that we had a voucher for beauty treatments but were unable to use this as there was only one beautician and she was fully booked throughout our stay. In future I will have to book in advance but this is not always possible.

We found everything about the hotel very enjoyable and the golf quite challenging for a par 3 course.

Space! The hotel is large, roomy, plentyof outdoor space for walking, golf, and car parking. The views of St Ives and the sea truly spectacular.
Other Comments
The restaurant is large and the breakfast is a buffet located against the sides of the room. It would help if trays were provided so that you could carry your food and drink to your tables, which could be some distance from the buffet.

Position of the hotel, setting and free game of golf!

Very helpful reception staff. Went out of their way to find table tennis equipment so that we could enjoy a game. Car park needs to be improved. Gravel made pulling suitcases difficult.
