Overview

Beechwood Hotel is a country house in North Walsham, Norfolk. This Georgian property has four AA Silver Stars, which is awarded to properties with high levels of hospitality, service and cleanliness. It is the top-ranked hotel out of 167 properties in Norfolk on TripAdvisor, and was once a regular haunt of Agatha Christie's. Her letters and photographs are displayed around the hotel.

There are a variety of places to visit near the hotel. The Norfolk Broads are around 20 minutes' drive away, and the coastal towns of Sheringham and Cromer are within 25 minutes by car. You can wander along Cromer's large sandy beach and go crabbing on the pier, or potter around Sheringham's colourful beach huts, numerous tea rooms and independent cafés. Norwich, which Lonely Planet praises for its "magnificent cathedral", "impressive Norman castle" and "thriving markets", is around 30 minutes' drive away.

The hotel's 2-AA-Rosette restaurant serves a Ten-Mile Dinner, the ingredients for which are sourced within 10 miles of the hotel where possible, and include Cromer crab, Brancaster mussels and Sheringham lobster. There is also a lounge bar and a garden lounge.

Rooms feature large Georgian windows, and some have free-standing Victorian bathtubs and walk-in showers.

What I loved about this hotel first was such a warm welcome from Hue the owner and all the staff, very friend but remained professional. The food is excellent with a most interesting and locally source menu. Should this offer return so will we!

We booked this as an anniversary treat. From the moment we walked through the door and Hugh the manager welcomed us and took our luggage to our room the service from all the staff was exceptional. The champagne cream tea was lovely and the quality of the food and service in the restaurant was outstanding. We had a four poster bed with a Victorian bath which was all decorated to a high standard with tea/coffee and biscuits. A lovely seating area, nice toiletries, large bath towels and towelling robes. The hotel has a nice little bar area and in the summer lovely garden to sit in. Breakfast (again) was outstanding plenty of choice and excellent quality.

We really enjoyed our stay here. The staff were very friendly and helpful; the room was very comfortable, the decor was lovely and also interesting (art deco) and the meals were really good. Thank you very much. (We should have asked how to use the shower as we had difficulty with that but nice to have a bath so no problem!) We enjoyed the surrounding are, including Cromer and Sheringham and saw seals at Horsey which was wonderful.

This is a traditional small family run hotel. If you are looking for a modern hotel this is not for you but if you want traditional decor, beautifully kept clean & fresh, with good old fashioned hospitality & quality food then you will enjoy it
