De Vere Devonport House is in the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Maritime Greenwich, an area that is steeped in naval history and contains attractions including the Old Royal Naval College and the National Maritime Museum.

This 4-star property occupies a collection of historic buildings that once formed part of the Royal Naval College. Its 99 rooms are decorated in contemporary style and have free Wi-Fi. The Officers Mess bar is open for drinks from 5pm, and snacks and drinks are available 24 hours a day from the Pantry in the lobby.

The hotel's landscaped grounds contain a small cemetery where Admiral Hardy (to whom Lord Nelson uttered his dying words at the Battle of Trafalgar) is buried. For more greenery, Greenwich Park is a 2-minute walk from the hotel, and the Royal Observatory is 10 minutes' walk away, at the top of a hill in the park -- the views from the top of the hill over Greenwich and towards Docklands are very impressive.

Tourist spots including the Old Royal Naval College, Greenwich Market, the National Maritime Museum and Cutty Sark are all less than five minutes' walk from the hotel. Greenwich railway station, Cutty Sark Docklands Light Railway station and Greenwich Pier are all less than 10 minutes' walk from the hotel, making it easy to take public transport into town -- you can be seeing the sights of central London within 20 minutes. The O2 Arena is a 20-minute bus ride away.

Although a regular visitor to London, this was our first visit to De Vere Devonport House, and Greenwich. Upon arrival, parked our car in the hotel car park with ease, plenty of availability (we arrived at 1700 hrs), booked in, giving us the hotel parking rather than the meter parking machines outside, and off to our room we went. We were on the 4th (top floor) where the room was acceptable. It had a double bed, fan, TV, safe, bathroom. It was a little tired in the decor but let’s be honest you don’t go to London to stay in your room all day and night, so looked pass that. There was a warm bottle of Prosecco in the room too. Breakfast was as expected, a mixture of Buffet style full English, fruits, pastries, juices... again it is what is is! I was disappointed with the drinks selection in the ‘Officers Mess’ Bar. Although draft pumps on the bar, only stocked bottled beers, that said, there was also two pubs opposite the hotel. We didn’t eat in the hotel of an evening, there was so much near by to choose. The hotel was quite, which makes a lovely change for a hotel in London. The location was great. Walking distance to the Cutty Sark, and the DLT and Thames Clipper boat service. For the price this was a great find and for example only £2.40 DLT from Cutty Sark to Bank Station 23 minutes... brilliant. The Thames Clipper was for example £10 one way to the Tower of London, bit more expensive than the DLT but the views are amazing. So in short, will I be back at this hotel again, Yes! Hotel bedroom. Very small, dated, tiny attic window and very hot! Uncomfortable bed - very firm.

Great location! Good breakfast but what's the point if you are not getting a comfortable night's sleep?
Other Comments
The room was tiny and incredibly hot being situated on the 4th floor attic rooms. Bed was very hard. Totally uncomfortable night! Very limited bar menu for food. They refused to supply a portion of chunky chips to accompany pizza, their excuse being they are only served with burger or fish and chips! I had a glass of Baileys with ice, asked for a second but they had completely run out!

We were tempted by a Travelzoo deal of £79.00 for a one night stay which included a continental breakfast and a bottle of sparkling wine. The booking details showed check-in as being 2pm. We arrived at around 14:35 hours to be told our room was not ready, when this was queried the lady who was on duty at reception said this was a Travelzoo error as their check-in time is 15:00 hours. This needs to be amended by Travelzoo so they provide the correct information to guests. That said, the lady on reception soon found another room (308) for us and in no time at all we were in our room. The room, upon entry, was very smelly which was off putting to say the least. We opened a window but it wasn't very nice. We then noticed a bottle of sparkling wine, this wine was not chilled and no glasses were provided, this was disappointing. If you are looking for a no frills place to stay then this may be the place for you. The breakfast was good.
Other Comments
If a bottle of sparkling wine is part of the deal to encourage guests then at a minimum provide 2 X wine glasses and arrange for a chilled bottle to be sent to the room upon check-in or hand a chilled bottle to the guest(s) at reception during the check-in process.
