Overview

Steeped in history with a touch of elegance throughout the entire property, the Omni William Penn Hotel has been a staple of downtown Pittsburgh for several generations.

One of the last ventures by industrialist and Pittsburgh steel pioneer Henry Clay Frick, the AAA 4-Diamond hotel's historic beauty is evident from the first step into the lobby. Twinkling crystal chandeliers hang from the ceiling, giving life to the earth tones that make the grand lobby inviting despite its regal décor.

Rooms feature wood furnishings and warm colors that exude a cozy yet luxurious feel. Families are made to feel welcome as kids are presented upon check-in with a backpack of healthy snack recipes, crayons and an activity book.

A signature dining experience can be found in the mahogany-adorned Terrace Room where historic pictures and molded plaster ceiling lend the restaurant its touch of class. For cocktails, the Speakeasy vaults guests back to the roaring '20s in a room below the lobby that offers classic drinks as well as Pennsylvania-themed cocktails. An on-site fitness center offers machines and weights 24 hours a day.

The hotel is located across the street from a T light rail station which offers free rides within downtown and the North Shore. Ride under the river for quick access to PNC Park, Heinz Field, Carnegie Science Center and Rivers Casino.

From the press:
  • “Pittsburgh's grand hotel has a sumptuous lobby, where people relax with drinks under a coffered ceiling and crystal chandeliers” -- Fodor’s

Yes. We do enjoy the location and the overall atmosphere of the hotel. We have stayed here in the past and had positive experiences so I'll chalk this up to an exception to the general rule.
Other Comments
The room had an unpleasant odor. We noticed the odor when we first entered the room but we thought it may have been from the cleaning staff and we were only in the room minutes before leaving to explore the city. Upon returning that evening the room still smelled but at that point it was late. We didn't contact the desk and from our past experience with the Omni I'm sure they would have done anything they could to help.

Exceptional stay! This was an excellent deal. I was able to check-in ahead of time online and they had everything ready for me when I arrived. Had an amazing room with a separate sitting area. Only disappointment was that I didn't purchase more of these certificates!!!!
