Overview

Perched on a quiet, sandy beach with sweeping views of the bay, Monterey Tides, part of Joie de Vivre Hotels, offers a secluded coastal retreat. Unwind to the hypnotic sound of waves crashing on this intimate stretch of beach away from the touristy downtown waterfront.

Guest rooms evoke the ocean with rich blue walls and crisp white linens. All rooms have minifridges, coffeemakers with Starbucks coffee and blackout shades. Some rooms offer views of the garden, while others overlook the ocean. It is worth mentioning that guest rooms are accessed via shared exterior walkways, so expect other guests to pass by your window. The rooms are equipped with air conditioning.

Hop on a beach cruiser bike, available for rent at the hotel, and pedal 15 minutes along the well-maintained, mostly flat Monterey Peninsula Recreational Trail to popular Fisherman's Wharf. Cannery Row and the Monterey Bay Aquarium are about 15 minutes away by car.

The on-site Vizcaino Waterfront Food + Drink restaurant is a nice spot to take in the view while dining on seafood dishes like fish tacos, clam chowder and seared scallops. The lively Bar Sebastián offers sweeping views of Monterey Bay, as well as a seasonal menu, craft cocktails and beers on tap.

They put us on the third floor which was right beneath the restaraunt. Very noisy ! Rooms are very dark.

Great location. All employees were pleasant. Only negative was the property could use some tender loving care-----painting of lots of scuff marks, staff picking up used room service dishes in a more timely manner, etc.

The exposed light bulb hanging from the roof allowed us to see the paint patch which was semi-gloss when the rest of the wall was eggshell. The commode are had peeling paint and the door jambs had been painted over. This was probably a nice place 30 years ago.

The spacious room and bathroom. Also the very nice patio which was fairly private with a pretty view of the landscape with trees and a deer strolled by.

If I remember right, some reviews said the decor was old and needed updating. But we felt it was just right. When I started to look closely, I did notice this and that. But overall, we were very comfortable and the room and bathroom were very clean. The separate guest houses are very nice! There is a kind of 50's vibe to the place -- which we liked very much. The staff were all wonderful, organized, and offered great service. And we were glad we did not stay at a beach hotel because they were in the cooler fog mist for longer. We had warmer weather being a little farther away from the ocean. The dinner entrees being included in the deal was excellent. Very good restaurant and service.

I bought this for my nephew and his bride this was a honeymoon get away. I called the hotel to tell them this was a Honeymoon they said they would put a bottle of champagne in the room. I called 3 different times to remind them. The girl said it’s on the reservation. Well no champagne in the room. They also had the 25.00 a day credit that they also said they would tell them and they also did not do that. I am a little unhappy that this special get away was not handled the way promised. Had the front desk told them about the credit they could have enjoyed a breakfast or a appetizer for free. I was promised this a few times and it did not happen. I hope this doesn’t happen to another guest when you are trying to give someone a nice little get away.

Location is very good. Almost a private beach with a great view, and very close to everything Monterey has to offer.

Common area is nice but ageing. The room and indeed the whole hotel is in urgent need of a remodel.
