"Stayed here to do some activities in Santa Barbara. Went wine tasting, had brunch, had a boat ride around the bay. The hotel itself was amazing. The bar and restaurant on site had a great atmosphere. The pool was very nice. The rooms were awesome, big comfy bed and great decor. The only knock is the distance it is to the beach/santa barbara. Not too bad but had to take a couple ubers throughout the day."

Why We Love This Hotel

  • Boutique hotel just a 15-minute drive to downtown Santa Barbara
  • Free extras include nightly happy hour, yoga classes and in-room record players
  • S'mores are offered by the fireside
  • Surfer-cool vibe with lively poolside DJ sets on Saturdays and Sundays

The Goodland, located a 15-minute drive from downtown Santa Barbara, is part of the boutique Kimpton Hotel chain. A laid-back, retro-chic surf vibe sets this hotel apart from the typical Kimpton offering, but the place still boasts the brand's signature attention to detail and quality of service. Classic surfboards pepper the hotel, which is accentuated by coastal wood and earth tones to create a warm beach feel.

Each guest room features a record player, and guests have access to a vinyl library where they can pick the perfect soundtrack for their stay. The nightly hosted happy hour -- the hotel calls it Social Hour -- gives travelers the chance to mingle while enjoying free (yes, free) wines by the glass. DJs, game night, live music and trivia night are also among the weekly offerings.

Play billiards or backgammon while sipping artisan cocktails in the Good Bar, or dine alfresco at the Outpost restaurant, where a fresh, seasonal menu focuses on locally sourced ingredients. Guests can also find a little extra inner peace in poolside yoga classes or burn off that extra cocktail in the fitness center.

Hop on one of the hotel’s beach cruisers and pedal 10 minutes to Goleta Beach for a game of volleyball or a picnic, or make the short drive into Santa Barbara and check out the trendy Funk Zone neighborhood chock-full of wine bars and art galleries.

Food at the restaurant was good. From what I could see at the lobby & restaurant the atmosphere was cool.

Hotel was overbooked. We arrived at 8pm & there was no room. We had to drive an hour to a Holiday Inn that was under construction. The good news is they did cover the Holiday Inn stay for 1 night & bought us dinner.

Good. There’s a Best Western next door that would have been a much better value in my opinion

There is no record player in each room I took some of my own records could not use. They move the wine hour location with out letting people know. Monday is cleaning day could not use pool until noon and patio was closed until about 3 pm bar and restaurant was closed all day. Air conditioning blows cold air on the bed making it very cold. Had to move things in front of it so it would not blow on us only about 3 feet from the bed. The gym is far from state of the art. A few hand weights only one 25lb dumb bell and about 4 other sets from 3 to 15lb very very small room menu in restaurant very strange they could offer regular things. Not many other places to eat in the local area. Mini fridge is full of billable things no room for even a bottle of wine. Shower my last Morning was almost hot. Staff from house cleaning to reception was very nice. Nothing bad to say about them

I have stayed here in the past and probably will stay again because Kimpton is dog friendly, they do not charge a daily dog fee which is nice and the rooms are reasonable. I feel like the exterior of the hotel could use a little upgrade. We did use the pool this trip, did not go in the bar (it was occupied by a wedding) but did eat in the restaurant and I thought the food was good and priced accordingly. Enjoyed the free coffee in the morning. The staff was very friendly. I enjoyed my stay.

The front desk customer service on check out (Benjamin) was great about listening to our issues and attempting to correct them. The evening wine hour was very good. I felt the service was very good but, again, geared towards a generation younger than a boomer. (My bad).

This was a pleasure, rather than business trip to this property. The disappointments were: 1) The location was not convenient to downtown Santa Barbara 2) The room we occupied had several issues: a) the room chair arm was broken and created a safety hazard; b) the electrical outlets in the night stands did not work, which created an issue for my wife's CPAP machine; c) the property is probably more suited to a millennial than a boomer d) it would have been more convenient to have had two chairs in the room rather than one chair and a "hassock" for seating arrangements.

Since our room wasn't ready for an hour, Benjamin, at the front desk, gave us drink coupons and a break on the resort fee. He was great! We really enjoyed the s'mores, wine bar and morning coffee available to us. Also we were able to change toa patio room which was great too! Very fun and nice experience.

The location was north of Santa Barbara downtown but was perfect for our stay. We wanted to be away from the crowds. The space was decorated with true Cali flair. The hotel was clean and our room came with everything we needed, including a record player! Check in was easy and enjoyed our free beers. The space around the hotel was cute and relaxing. We would come back again!

They were able to accommodate us even tho we were early for check-in. I really enjoyed the DJ playing awesome tunes at the pool on Sunday. The record players in the rooms were a nice touch.
