"The service was great. My plans had changed and my son accompanied me rather than my partner. The reception staff noticed, changed our room from double to twin and upgraded us free of charge and without being asked. It was so good. Stevie Jackson"

The hotel is right beside Kensington Gardens, just a short walk from Harrods department store and the museums on Exhibition Road. High Street Kensington Underground station is five minutes' walk away.

You can enjoy afternoon tea in the Park Terrace Restaurant, which holds two AA Rosettes. However, the real shining star is the 3-AA-Rosette Min Jiang restaurant on the 10th floor, where those in the know dig into the signature wood-fired Beijing duck (Tatler calls it "utterly refined"). Order in advance to avoid a 45-minute wait.

After a day's sightseeing or shopping, slip into the darkly handsome Bertie's Bar for a late-afternoon coffee or evening cocktails. There is also a gym with fitness equipment, a sauna, a steam room and a health club.

The bedrooms have large picture windows, many with views of Kensington Gardens and cosy window seats. Triple-glazing ensures a quiet night's sleep in spite of the bustling street below.

Queen Rooms, which are normally sold for single occupancy and are 21 square metres, have scenic views of Kensington High Street and the Royal Household Mews.

From the press:

  • "The hotel has become a discreet haven for a regular stream of famous visitors as diverse as Michael Jackson, President Putin and the England rugby team" -- The Caterer

  • "There are many notable Chinese restaurants in London, but none with such a picture-perfect vista… [and] the cooking is not overshadowed by the view" -- Time Out

Location was superb for our holiday with easy access via bus, tube or walking to all major sites. Room was front facing therefore subject to traffic noise which didn't affect us. For the most part staff are very professionally trained.Breakfast was awesome, freshly cooked or continental. We did take up the option of the dinner with a cocktail to start bought on travelzoo website. This was outstanding, food was exceptional service was friendly yet professional. well worth the money. Thank you.

On arrival we were given a queen room but I had requested a twin-bedded. The young trainee on duty suggested very politely that because we had not booked directly with the hotel this request could not be fulfilled. The room were allocated was usually reserved for single use only.I was very uncomfortable with her attitude. Maybe a little more training would be a suitable solution. As a couple of pensioners enjoying our trips away we don't come across this attitude at all.
