Overview

Dale Lodge Hotel is a "classy hotel with a brilliant pub", says Lancashire Life. This Georgian country-house hotel is situated in three acres of mature gardens in the village of Grasmere in the Lake District. Built in the 1820s, the property maintains many of its original features and is a great place to escape the hustle and bustle.

The village of Grasmere was home to William Wordsworth and the property is less than a 10-minute walk from the Wordsworth Trust, a living memorial set up to celebrate the poet's work. The famous Grasmere Gingerbread shop in set in Dove Cottage, the poet's former home, and is less than a 2-minute walk from the hotel.

You won't go hungry -- the hotel received a VisitEngland Gold Breakfast Award and you can choose between a candlelit dinner in the formal, yet cosy Lodge Restaurant or relax in the more laid-back Tweedies Bar. The Lodge Restaurant is in the main hotel and serves traditional dishes including fish and chips or more contemporary dishes such as pork done four ways with dauphinoise potatoes and braised red cabbage.

If you prefer a more relaxed pub environment then Tweedies Bar will be right up your street. It has an award from the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) and has won praise from The Daily Telegraph for being "iconic", and serving "outstanding food". If you've had a long day rambling on the fells, prop up the bar with a pint of guest ale and tuck into a hearty meal of steak and kidney pudding.

Rooms are individually designed with a traditional décor and crisp white linens. Facilities include free WiFi and tea- and coffee-making facilities. Upgrade to a larger Premier or Luxury Mews Room if travelling with children.

When we first arrived they gave us a standard twin but the offer we booked was a premier room of which they had none left so they put us in No 3 mews accommodation which was good but I would have rather stayed in the hotel in the room we had booked.

The ‘look and feel’ of the hotel and adjoining bar in a fab location in the centre of Grasmere with own parking space.

Low key check in / out with great service - welcome room card with the history of Dale Lodge and Tweedies Bar Small hotel with number of bedrooms, presently being refurbished. 4 mews style bedrooms separate from main hotel, within 25 metres of reception. The bedroom is small and will be overly warm in summer. Not great for tall people with low bedroom angled ceiling. Molton Brown toiletries and bathrobes provided. Splendid breakfast with several made to order hot dishes Public rooms furnished in a contemporary yet comfortable style with views into adjoining garden and log burning stoves and lit candles Tweedies Bar - pre booking for supper essential. Great menu - same menu as hotel dining room. Wide selection of craft beers and wines and not pricey. Good vibe. No fast food and all cooked to order, so some acceptable wait time.

The hotel could have done with another waitress at breakfast, the poor girl was rushed off her feet, taking orders, serving the breakfasts, as well as lighting the log fire!

I think that in the summer months it would be ideal to sit outside as there was an abundance of picnic tables and lots of outside space.

Did not get a premium room as I had booked , ended up with a small standard room as the hotel was renovating some rooms. Receptionist very rude to my wife about the room.said it was travelzoo fault and should have informed us. And she wanted to charge us £69 more to upgrade to a log cabin room . Not very good customer service, I must say!!!!!! . Just think she had seen her backside, grumpy old bugger!!!!!! We felt like we were second best because we had booked with travelzoo. She said oh you get what room is available when you book last minute. Even though we told her I booked 30th Dec 2017 , it was booked for my wife's birthday aswell.

The rooms were a little bit tired but there was some renovation going on (we were not disturbed by this at all) so maybe they will be updated
