The Ryebeck is a former Edwardian gentlemen's residence with sweeping views of Lake Windermere.

It is set in five acres of landscaped grounds, 25 minutes' walk from the village of Bowness-on-Windermere, which has shops, restaurants, tea rooms and boat trips on the lake.

The deluxe country house hotel is within a 30-minute drive from Ambleside, Wordsworth's Dove Cottage in Grasmere, Beatrix Potter's Hill Top house and Holehird Gardens, home of the Lakeland Horticultural Society. The surrounding Lake District countryside is ideal for hiking, cycling and other outdoor pursuits.

The 2-AA-Rosette Lake View Restaurant showcases locally sourced produce, and there is a cosy lounge offering classic afternoon teas. Both the restaurant and the lounge have lake views.

If I go back I'll do what I did first time and pay the extra to book one of the best rooms -'grand' . This was a superb (room 9), great view , fabulous spa bath, but hard bed (even with a topper), small telly (for room size). Can't, as ever, fault the staff. They are very good and go the extra to make sure you are happy.

Without question it was the food. Exceptionally cooked and presented, full of flavour and just the right quantities to allow you to indulge in 3 courses without being overfaced

We loved the Ryebeck, & look forward to visiting again in the future. The bedroom was a good size - the bed was huge, & extremely comfortable. Staff & other visitors were all friendly, & we enjoyed sitting in the lounge & dining room, chatting or just taking in the view, Being able to use the pool & spa at the Old English Hotel was an added bonus. A standard lamp near the sitting area would be a welcome addition to the bedroom as the ceiling lights are very bright but rather overpowering. It would be nice to be able to sit & read in the evening without lighting up the whole room. Also, the positioning of the television above the seating area is a bit strange, but overall we fully enjoyed our stay. Thank you.

The very large bed was so comfortable! I have never had such a relaxing sleep away from home. The staff are extremely polite, professional and friendly and nothing is too much trouble.

The Ryebeck is a lovely hotel set in a large country house with many of the original features retained. The grounds are kept very well and there is plenty of car parking space. Only a short drive from the main town of Bowness-on-Windermere it is ideally located for sightseeing and walking. The restaurant is light and airy and even when full it does not feel crowded. The food is excellent too - a little expensive but in keeping with the cost of a stay there. The drinks were very expensive i.e. £6.50 for a single shot of Belvedere vodka and £2.25 for a small mixer bottle of lemonade.
