For a coastal trip, the harbour town of Whitehaven is less than 10 minutes' drive away. It's home to over 250 listed buildings, a working harbour and a museum, The Rum Story, that tells the history of the UK's rum trade. The Lake District National Park is 15 minutes' drive away and the towns of Ambleside, Grasmere and Keswick are all within 50 minutes' drive.

There's lots to do while staying at the hotel -- you can visit The Lakes Distillery at Bassenthwaite, 20 minutes' drive away, or walk along the St Bees Head Heritage Coast, which is approximately 25 minutes' drive from the hotel. The AA-recommended Whinlatter Forest Park, a designated red squirrel reserve, is 30 minutes' drive from the hotel.

Hunday Manor is an intimate family-run hotel with 27 individually decorated rooms. The restaurant serves set-menu and à la carte meals in the evening. and there's also a cosy lounge and bar, complete with log fires, where you can relax after a day of walking or an indulgent dinner.

We found the Manor to be accommodating of our needs, it’s location for Workington and White Haven are spot on, and just down the road you have the Lake District. We booked for two nights using Travelzoo and the benefits from this booking was excellent, a credit to the staff and the chefs. As the food was excellent and the rooms where smart and adequate.

As a regular visitor to hotels similar to Hunday Manor this rates as one of if not thee best we've tried. With 28 rooms smaller than many similar properties but that is very much an advantage; level service and overall ambience first class.

This was a birthday treat. We had quite a nice room but unfortunately the TV couldn't get BBC channels and I was looking forward to a relaxing time watching those channels so a bit disappointing. Also couldn't get the towel rail working despite asking for help. The breakfasts were very good and plenty of choice. The evening meals not bad but not so brilliant for vegetarians. We found the service a bit variable. Often nobody on reception or in the bar. It felt like staff needed a bit of training-putting the customer first. Also the lighting in the room was strange -couldn't really read at night as bedside lamps didn't give off much light. I was a bit surprised this hotel had 4 stars. It certainly has a good location and a relaxing ambience but some things need improving. Being offered a gin and tonic on arrival was a very nice touch. Very welcome.
