Sonesta Coconut Grove Miami is in Coconut Grove, a bay-side neighbourhood that is 15 minutes' drive south of Downtown Miami.
Once a haunt for writers and artists, Coconut Grove is now better known for its shopping and dining. The property is just across the street from CocoWalk, an open-air shopping and dining area, and five minutes' walk from The Barnacle Historic State Park. It is a 10-minute drive from Vizcaya Museum & Gardens, a turn-of-the-century villa on the waterfront that is opulently furnished with antiques (closed Tuesday) -- The Daily Telegraph recommends its al fresco café for lunch.
The hotel's Panorama Restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and offers views over Biscayne Bay and the Miami skyline from its 8th-floor setting. The hotel also has an outdoor pool and Sky Lounge bar for poolside snacks and cocktails. There's also a fitness centre (open 6am-10pm) and two squash courts (same-day reservations available).
The spacious bedrooms offer free Wi-Fi, and the walls showcase a selection of the Sonesta brand's modern art collection, including pieces by Frank Stella, Robert Rauschenberg and up-and-coming artists.
