"Another wonderful stay at this charming hotel. The George has it's own special ambience that makes you feel at home the minute you arrive. It has become a bolt hole for us. Rye is just lovely too."
Dating back to 1575, the George in Rye sits in the heart of "possibly southeast England’s quaintest town" (Lonely Planet) and is surrounded by boutiques, art galleries, antique shops, cobbled streets, and restaurants that serve freshly caught seafood.
Nearby attractions include Battle Abbey (built on the site of the Battle of Hastings), Bodiam Castle, Camber Castle, Camber Sands, and Lamb House, where writer Henry James lived.
The property perfectly blends an abundance of historic character with stylish design. Its restaurant presents guests with a locavore menu, "heavy on Romney Marsh lamb and Rye Bay scallops that are so good they warrant their own annual festival" says Condé Nast Traveller.
The hotel has welcomed a cast of celebrity guests, including George Clooney, Helena Bonham Carter, Matt Damon, Sir Ian McKellen, and Kevin Costner.

Very nice hotel

Could do with having a lunch menu instead of having to pick off the main restaurant menu e.g sandwiches, wraps, sharing boards. Parking is also a bit off a faff.

Both food & staff were excellent.
Unfortunately, despite having done their best, the hotel was definitely suffering from a staff shortage & consequently service was a bit slow. However, the staff they had were excellent, both friendly & efficient.
The room we had was a good size, well presented & clean, as was the bathroom. The downside was that the you couldn't really open the curtains as the window had no view whatsoever.
Other Comments
Even though we couldn't give a 100% 5 star review, the staffing problem was basically beyond their control & I would certainly go again.

Fantastic, they were very helpful when due to heath reasons the dates had to be changed twice. Everything was really just how it should be in a luxury hotel.

The only downside, is for people with mobility issues, which wasn't us. Parking could be an issue for some as the car park is not that close but on the upside the parking fee is reasonable. Very tastefully decorated and super comfortable. Deluxe room was simply gorgeous, classic with a modern twist. Dinner and staff all high quality. All the staff were excellent on every occasion.

It’s a lovely welcoming hotel with comfortable bar areas and lovely rooms. I didn’t like the fact our bedroom had an opaque window and would have preferred a room in the main part of the hotel.
