Overview
Fresh from completing a multi-million dollar makeover in 2013, the Topnotch Resort is a stylish mountain retreat known for its award-winning tennis centre and proximity to the slopes. The 120-acre wooded estate is located in Vermont, three miles from the Stowe village and four miles from skiing at Stowe Mountain Resort, where there are over 100 trails.
"Topnotch tops everything in the area", says Fodor's, giving particular praise to the tennis courts, which are "easily the best" in Vermont. The resort’s fitness centre and spa are also impressive, spanning over 35,000-square-feet, with private and mixed saunas, steam rooms, a 60-foot indoor pool and an outdoor adult pool that is open year-round. Yoga, Pilates and cardio classes are offered throughout the day (extra charge applies) and tennis lessons are available all year round.
Beyond lavish spa treatments and lively doubles matches, the great outdoors is the main attraction here. Hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, and cross-country skiing can all be done on the property. Guests also have full golf privileges at the Country Club of Vermont, 20 minutes' drive away.
For dinner, choose between Flannel for mountain views and upscale comfort cuisine and Roost, a modern bar and restaurant with an expansive outdoor patio including fire pits, a bocce ball court and a good craft beer selection. The spacious guestrooms come with complimentary water and Wi-Fi, and some suites have a separate living room, full kitchen and fireplace.
- "Nature plays center stage at the resort, and can be enjoyed on expansive hiking trails or by renting bikes, canoes and fly-fishing equipment or horses on-site" -- Travel + Leisure
- "The tennis center has marvelous indoor and outdoor courts -- easily the best facilities in Vermont" -- Fodor's
